In the UK to access proper mobile 3G broadband you need to buy the 3G sim with a usb modem so you have access to a top up plan or contract.
Data cards have been discontinued and separate sim only data deals aren't available.
GPRS data on a normal phone sim are horrendously expensive once you go above 25MB.
International roaming is also extremely expensive.

The Sierra Wireless 850 fits the pcmcia slot, but the aerial connector does stick out in the standard slots (I'm wondering if the hidden slot could be used with the aerial lead popping out next to the lan port?).
A 3G sim from the USB modem will work in the Aircard 850 on Vodafone 3G, but you have to use the full Vodafone Mobile Connect software downloaded off their site - not the lite version set up on the USB stick.
The 3G Watcher software doesn't connect right, giving an invalid profile error.

    Just for info.
