Every time I plug in a 3.0 device, there's a popup that says "device could perform faster if connected to a high speed USB 3.0 port" Any ideas? BIOS update? Current BIOS version 4.00L12 Other info attached

Are you are using the usb3.0 port? The other usb ports are 2.0. I am sure you know, but I figure I sure check first. If that is not the issue, perhaps drivers?

On my 53 I have a USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 on the right side. In the back I have 2 USB 2.0 BUT since my 53 is docked all the time under my big screen TV I lose the two USB's in the back but get 4 total from the docking station which 1 is a USB 3.0 . Tonight I did notice that one of my external HDD was getting this message. Come to find out all I had to do was switch around the USB cables. This external HDD had two USB cables, one for power and one for data. I had the data cable on the USB 2.0 not the USB 3.00 . The message is gone now. Wish it had two more USB 3.0 for my other two external HDD. If you might ask why I use 3 external HDD's instead of 1 it's easy... If the one goes bad I lose everything but with 3 I still have two left. Yes I do have backup setup on all my drives that runs once a month to my 4GB external drive. The last thing I want to lose is my movies, songs and software/ drivers from my Toughbooks that I have saved over the years....right Shawn

Looks like I must have been thinking of my FZ G1. The CF 31 does not seem to have that USB 3 setting.

Blair got me thinking. Check the cables. Not just that they are in the correct port, but the quality. I have had some USB 3 cables that were not up to par.
Also, I think the windows usb 3 driver gets confused sometimes. I get that message once in a while at work on the desktop.
On my Toughbooks, I disable the power management to the usb ports. That seems to eliminate many usb problems.
Advanced power settings--Disable USB selective suspend.
I also do this on the wifi cards in device manager-properties-power mangement
