Will an USB optical drive draw any power if there isn't any disk in it?
The USB housing has an USB port and a 5v port which is connected an adapter to plug it into a 2nd USB port. If I leave this setup (both USB connected) plugged into a laptop, will it drain the battery? Or will it be "off" due to an internal switch/sensor on the drive mechanism?

Deere, There is always 'idle' current when the device is not in use. It may be a few milliamps, but it's still drawing power. :)
