I think I am ready to upgrade to Vista, I believe my mind, body and soul are ready  I am trying to find as much info, directions etc from Panny in regards to upgrading as possible. I found this one document from them but it's from when Vista 1st came out. So I feel it's kinda out of date. Does anybody have anything that I can read for directions, steps etc? I would really appreciate it.

What laptop are you planning on using for the install? Specs? Remember, if you plan on using most of the visual features of Vista, it is really RAM hungry. I installed Vista on one of my CF-50's (1.7 GHZ) and it works grate with 1.5 gig in the RAM. Otherwise, it was pretty much a standard Windows install and I had as few or fewer problems than any previous install. Good luck and keep us posted.

I have the 30 MKll, 4 Gb's Ram. I have the 2 discs that came with it, XP, and Vista.
In regards as too why? 1st off I finally was able to find the time to get my HP Touch Smart at home with Vista in pretty good order. 2nd, I had read on the Microsoft site that to move to 7 you had to have Vista loaded. True??

I am really enjoying my Vista at home, plus I can't sit still or leave well enough alone! LOL........

Yes, if you uprade to 7 having vista installed first is best

Before you change make sure any important applications that you use on your xp instalation are compatable with vista

Save your data, internet shortcuts ,outlook messages , contact list, etc
In the bios select your optical drive as first boot device, have your restore dvd in the drive and load vista

After, install vista sp-1, and then use microsoft update to update windows and look for updates for hardware

I did it just for something different to look at. Upgraded a 30MKII. Ended up doing a large number of updates. All I can say was that it works and gives me something new to mess with in my spare time. There is not a really sensible reason to make the change. I was going to download the 7 beta but when I read through everything, I realized that they expected that you buy it after the beta ended. I am not going to do active beta work if I have to pay for the finished product afterwards.

Alex, Thanks for the suggestions. If you remember, I just replaced my HDD from an 80GB to 320Gb Hitachi's. 5400 to 7200 RPM. So I have almost all my stuff already saved,, just need to update it. That HDD swap was a good tutorial for me....

What do you think the % of drivers Vista is going to find? That is the one thing I hate messing with. I dont have touch, at leat I wont have to mess with that driver. I have heard it doesnt load sometimes.

Iceman, I totally agree with you. I think they should give 7 out to everybody that does Beta, and sends them feedback for free.

With the restore dvd you will have all drivers installed automaticaly except if you have wwan as that would be an extra download
You have to understand that the restore disk is so easy, in compairison to loading an oem vista, and installing 20 or more drivers

Thanks Alex, I think I will do that during the game later. You better be around!!! If I have any questions, I am going to stop and post the question here before I hit ENTER. LOL I do have the Verizon disc, just used that on the HDD swap. It was a breeze, didnt even have to enter my cell phone # that they gave me.
