Hi guys,
For sometime now I have been working on a CF-52AKC50JM and after loading XP Pro, I am left with two items in the Device manager that need drivers. You may have seen these before, PCI Serial Port and PCI Simple Communications Controller.
The PCI Serial Port properties show vendor 8086 and device 2A07.
The PCI Simple Communications Controller is vendor 8086 and device 2A04.
Vendor 8086 is Intel, when I went to their download site to find drivers for these devices I had no luck (or didn't search the correct way) so I used Intel's software to scan my system and check to see if I had the most up-to-date drivers expecting to find that I needed these drivers. But, no, Intel thinks my machine is current.
Search on google lead me to IBM users forums where Intel AMT software took care of the 2A04, but a quick search on Panasonic Toughbook download support, did not show an AMT download for the MK1 XPSP2. I accessed the BIOS V1.12L21, and checked the setting for Intel AMT, Intel ME setup prompt is set to disable and USB key based configuration is set to disable.
Hate to say it, but I need some help. What is going on with this machine?
FYI, in the BIOS, lan is enabled, but enable is grayed out, port has been tested good, but I don't remember seeing that on any other machine. Admittedly, I can't recall exactly if I have worked on a CF-52 MK1, MK1L yes - many, but MK1 maybe not. If so, didn't have any troubles like this. I should also mention, the Product recovery DVD that was used to load XP Pro (MK1HL-XP2M)would not work in this machine. So, I ran it in a MK1L, then before restarting the MK1L, took the hard drive out and inserted it into the MK1. On the restart, everything ran as it should, except these two mystery devices.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Joe

It looks like the LAN or WLAN driver needs reinstalled...Try the official Panasonic one..
The serial port should not need a driver unless MAYBE you have a fingerprint, card reader, or gps??? I dunno on that one. -

Try downloading ALL the official Panasonic drivers and install them in the proper order.
Does a cf52 mk1 have a different bios for XP????
It was originally a Vista machine so your XP recovery disc will not work. -
Thanks for the reply Shawn. I'm already pretty much where you think I should go. I have downloaded the XP drivers from Panasonic and installed them in order. If there is another BIOS, I can't find it. Both LAN and WiFi, have had the most recent Panasonic drivers installed, they work and are properly recognized in device manager.
So, lets go back to your identification of 2A04 as Intel Engine Management Interface. I though OSI might be it, nope. Then tried the CPU idle, not that either. Can anyone tell me what Engine Management Interface means?
In regard to 2A07, PCI serial port, I know you didn't say it was the fingerprint reader, but that driver is installed and again, properly recognized in device manager.
Still at a loss, but appreciate the effort, it makes me double check and helps ensure I'm not overlooking something. Any other ideas and/or help with Engine Management Interface? -
The CF-52 series started with the 965 chipset, I think it's bios is like the CF-30 Mk2. XP, Vista and 7 load equally.
VEN 8086 DEV 2A04 & 2A07 drivers needed
