... so I've just been told that electronics such as laptops and digicams are ok but not in their cases, those need to be checked-in baggage.

"Sir please take the laptop out of the case..."
"This is the laptop, there's no case for it."

    :D

muche the same rules here... you just need to remove the cases for going through security checks, but once through you can put them back in...

although security didnt want me to get my UX1 out for some reason!! yet it was more powerful than my girlfriends lappy!! peculiar!

This happens ALL the time with me... the morons at the airport look at it and think it's a bomb... The thought crossed my mind to point at it and run to see how others may react... :D

Please tell me you were on an international flight! If these morons are not going to let me carry my computer bag on an airplane because some Nigerian packed his tighty whities with home made explosives I'm done flying. I didn't realize that the stupidity of our "Homeland Security" had bled north over the border. Teo and Rob, don't even joke about pulling the TSA's chain no matter how much they deserve it. You will be inconvenienced beyond your wildest dreams. They have no sense of humor!

When I cockily replied "This is the laptop, not a bomb"... I was hauled into a secured office, frisked, had all the CF-28's bay probed and was thoroughly questioned before I was even allowed to board. Definitely not funny and like Capt said... they really have no sense of humor.

If you need to fly and get put on a "no fly" list I doubt that anyone here would find that funny either. This is the nature of all security, it restricts individual actions in an effort to promote safety. Everyone demands safety in all of our endeavors, many times to a ridiculous certain, however no one wants to be inconvenienced. It is honestly a "no-win" situation.

My big problem with TSA is how it was formed. We took the same personnel that were already in place and whose substandard performance had the earmarks of culpability on some of the catalytic incidents and gave them new uniforms, high compensation and more authority.

But the main problem is the sub-standard personal they have insisted on re-employing and this is, in my opinion, is highly problematic and leads to a lot of the stupidity that we all suffer at these checkpoints.

The soapbox is now free if anyone needs it! :D

    Az,
My point is this, one way ticket, paid in cash, travelling without luggage, tries to blow up airplane with homemade bomb in his shorts. TSA, no in flight movies, no carry on bags, no taking a leak in the last 1 hour of flight. Homeland security chief, "system worked, bomb failed". When does this idiocy stop?

Canadian domestic flight. Flights to the US are even worse. My sister was at the Toronto airport on the 26th at 6am set to depart to St. Louis non-stop. She finally arrived at 9pm via Indianapolis.

    When we fire the idiots.

Captain, I do not believe that we have any disagreement here!

"Profiling" is just a PC word invented to keep good cops from doing what their hard won experience has trained them to do. We need to quit playing the idiot game of using it in a negative context.

Political Correctness is the hood and gag that freedom must wear while it is marched to its death!
