Hey guys, I just got a CF29!!! What a dream come true, built like an Abraham TANK!

Anyways, I'm using a PCMCIA verizon wireless card in my other computer. I'm not sure if my toughbook has WWAN built in. I've done some searching but I haven't been able to find the answer to these questions:

How do I know if it already has WWAN built in?

What card do I need to get the internal wireless working with Verizon?

Welcome and your about to do some good searching...

if you could post the complete model number here
CF29xxxxxxx <<<<It can be found in BIOS
I'm sure we can all help.

If you have the internal sled (module) plugged into the left side above the battery that would be a good start,.
Otherwise, it may not be there but be wwlan ready .
Meaning, it has the antenna and supporting connections for the module.

There are several different wwlan modules available, but two that I know of for Verizon.
Rev 0 and the REV A , They can be found on ebay, not too cheap tho.

There is a lot of good info on this board and it'l require a lot of reading to get a full grasp of what you have, that 29 is a fine machine.
    enjoy

Is that similar to an Abrams tank? A quick Google search for "abraham tank" brought up some interesting things that I shouldn't link to on this forum.

    The laptop is a CF-29LTQGWBM

I know there are different WWAN options, but I just need to know which is a Verizon option! My computer has the antenna and came with GPS so I believe it should be WWAN ready.

You don't have a WWAN modem yet based on the configurator. You only have a GPS on the the SLed/daugtherboard but your unit is wireless ready. it means you already have antena mounted at the top of LCD. Check the daughterboard and see what kind of modem it will be accepted like GSM type CDMA or EVDO.

Have you pulled the 'sled' to see what is installed, if anything?

Switch off, remove the battery then with the battery hatch open take out the two screws immediately above the top corners of the battery compartment.

The plastic inset in the palmrest should slide out, with the 'sled' module - about 4" deep - attached if a WWAN and/or GPS module is installed.

If you have only than the plastic cover with nothing attached, look into the slot and you should be able to see the docking connector at the back of the slot on a GPS-Ready or Wireless-Ready machine.

As Ohlip says, you should also have the WWAN antenna at the top left of the screen on a wireless-ready version.

An original GPS-Only sled has just the interface board along one side with the GPS itself hidden underneath it.
The bulk of the space is for whatever WWAN module may be used.

I'm wondering if the Abraham Tank can cross the Matthew Moat... Or is it just something you see on the Discovery Channel?

    ;)

I have the antenna on the top left of the screen which pulls out, it's ready to go! I'm just looking for the right card which will work with Verizon because that is the internet I'm currently subscribed to.
