Hi, I am trying to help a fellow member that is trying to put Win 7 on his CF-29H. I looked it up and I believe that the video set in these is the Intel® 855GM graphic controller?

If so, I may have found a Vista driver that will work for this upgrade.

So, does anyone know for sure if this is the correct chipset?

The Vista video driver does not work on mine (CF-29H)
Windows 7 give the faulty report 43 and goes back to the standard VGA driver.
(or blue screen if you force it  )
I think we must wait until Windows or Intel comes with a solution.
There are many older laptops with that problem (see google for this problem)
Anyway it seems the MK5 does not have this problem.

Have you seen this discussion for possible work-a-rounds?

I also see references to this driver, Intel-855gm-driver.1.5.2.zip , working on Win7. Of course they want you to join the site for download access. You can find it via Google.

    I give it up
I tried every method that was on Internet, with no success.
Guess i must wait until my MK 5 comes in, and try it on this one.

    Thanks anyway,

    Derick

Sorry that I was not able to help Derick. I was hoping that some of the old pros would wade in on the problem, and I assume that they would have if they had any solid suggestions.

But, I have to ask, you did try the OEM XP driver, right?

Did you disable the verification check in Windows 7 before you installed the updated video driver as suggested in the CF18 windows 7 install thread? Maybe that would work?

Is this the method that you employed:

    1) downloading latest drivers (v14.19.50) for XP from Intel's site and extracting them to a separate folder

    2) booting W7 in the safe mode

    3) Device Manager -> Video Adapter (VGA compatible) -> Properties

    4) Driver -> Update driver -> Browse -> Let me pick -> Display adapters -> Have disk -> give path to \"win2000\" folder of the extracted driver

    5) After you get error about driver installation, in Device Manager click on \"Scan for new hardware\"

    6) Boot your W7 in \"Disable driver signing enforcement\" mode

    I got this here...

This was one off the many methods found on the net i used, no joy

Still waiting for my CF-29N for arrival (he is been hold by customs in Belgium  )

I will switch hard disks on the CF's and see what happens

I think I may have solved this... :) unfortunately credit isnt down to me, but a collection of tips compiled from around :)

    you will need Drivermax http://www.drivermax.com/

the vista extracted drivermax driver - i probably cant give the link, butif you google for something along the lines of 'Windows 7 and the Intel 855GM Video Driver "Solution"' there is a link in the list of comments

extract the downloaded driver and edit the 'ialmnt5.ini' file
towards the bottom locate and change the 128 to 64

    [i852GM.GeneralConfigData]
    MaximumNumberOfDevices = 2
    MaximumDeviceMemoryConfiguration = 128

run msconfig and choose the boot option and tick 'OS Boot information'

run drivermax and choose the restore drivers option from folder and choose your newly edited driver...

Reboot and away you go! :)

Standby and hibernate both work and the driver is listed correctly in Device manager and DXdiag :)

sorry for the giant photos, but the text become illegible if they are resized!

That is a nice piece of work! I saw this as well, but did not test it, as I only have a MkV. But that is nothing compared to making it work and proving that the Mark1-3 can run Win7!

Denrosten is this one of the methods that you tried; it looks like it worked for Matt!

Azrial - you 'ónly have a MK5' oh you poor chap! tell you what, I'll swap it for my MK4 if its any help!!! ;)

This method has now worked on both my laptops - 1.2ghz CF-29C and 1.4ghz CF-29H

I had tried bits of those tips before, but they didnt work... and last night independently they failed, either on boot or runnining WI so this just looks like the lucky combination! :)

Great Job again. However, why can we not post a link to the article, "Intel 855GM Video Driver "Solution"?' Is this a rule that I am not aware of?

Anyway I found it easy enough, looks like the CF-29 Mk1-3 are good for Win7 as well! I was hoping to see Denrosten posting here of success following this method.

My MkV? Nah, but yours looks pretty nice! But, it may have a little too much RAM mounted to the Momboard for my taste... ;)

i suppose a direct link to the article wouldnt hurt! I just wanted to err on the side of caution and avoid a direct link to the driver download... :)

Im pleased it worked out for your machine too Den :) lets see how this holds up in the long term! :)

edit, oh and the eagle eyed of you may notice the WI score for the processor is a bit low, the top 2 grabs were from the CF-29H and the last from my little CF-29C :)

    Matt,

After the installation, do you return to normal boot, or do you leave it in "boot information" ?

I did the trick with the vista driver you mention before (without the transformation), and it didn't work, so its the 64 Mb and the Drivermax that do it

ive left it in 'boot information' - apparently the startup animation is too high a resolution and causes the driver to crap out!! although ive not actually tested it!

my machine tends to only be rebooted once in a blue moon... when something stops working or Windows updates demands it! it spends its life hibernated :) and oddly, the resume from hibernate animation works ok!! :)

Intel® 855GM graphic controller, UMA (Unified Memory Access) up to 64MB

Have you tried installing the inf for chipset ? Go to www.panasonic.ca and search for cf29ht, you'll find it located there. This is installed before any drivers. (intelinf_29_3_d030876.exe)
