Anyone tried Vista on a CF-18D???? Not sure I want to switch, but I was just curious how well it worked or if there were any snags.

I don't recall that ever being mentioned but search our forums for "windows vista on CF-18" and see if you get any hits.

Yep tried that. Just curious how well it works even though it really isn't designed for it.

When asked in the past on vista on cf-29’s I have commented that vista is such a resource hog, that I would not bother

    But this is different

All vista versions other than vista basic have tablet/digitizer features built-in
That’s the natural replacement for xp tablet edition

Panasonic does not have vista drivers for this model though
So you are on your own
    Some features might not work

You have to try to use the xp drivers for features that vista lacks
Max out the ram to 1.25gb as it will need it

Lastly look at the applications you use regularly
In my case there is compatibly issues with some of my software using vista

That’s the main reason Panasonic has a xp downgrade disk for all the current models

I just buy a CF-19 and i go to find more info about product like driver and more .

If you upgrade to Vista you can go here :

    https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pc/itn/support/vistainfo.html

A lot of info like Aero not work on CF18 and 1go RAM is the minimum .

I like this forum for driver for Toughbook go here :

    https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pc/cgi-bin/itn/toughbook/dl01.cgi

You can see drivers for HDD if you install new Xp and don't have Original Recovery CD you can make it with Nlite and put driver on it ;)

I just bought a CF-18 MK2 touchscreen (non-digitizer) used and it had Vista on it with 768 RAM and 1.1G processor. Works great, even the front tablet buttons. Including screen rotation. No lag on anything I've run so far. My only complaint is the touch pad. I use an OEM XP-Pro unit at work and the touchpad works perfect on it so I don't know if it's the Vista operating system or the driver. I know others have complained about the touchpad on these units before but my previous two at work have been fine. Also found out that Vista has a built in partition manager so I was able to simply move a slider and adjust size to add new partition for dual boot setup. Now all I need is a way to load the operating system without an OEM Panasonic floppy or optical drive. I'm still searching the archives for info on that. I know my Buslink that came with our units at work does not work without Windows up and running. We have to send the HD to Panasonic for imaging when trouble arises that needs OS reload.

Any usb dvd drive will work, you don't have to use the panasonic drives

The standard way is the restore disks which image the hard drive

The second o/s on the same hard drive is only possible with a second windows instalation disk, as the panasonic disks only image the drive
