Does anyone know how well vista will run on a CF-29? I am about ready to fire this Sally up and am in the market for an O/S. My system so far is a 160 5400rpm HDD by WD, on board ram plus 512 DDR2-4200 533Mhz. Is this going to be a hardware/software nightmare? Please let me know so I don't stumble over the same mistakes some-one already did. Thanks

Lost... Welcome to the forum. If you do a little digging I think you'll find that this has been covered in a few posts... My personal opinion is that Vista=YUK! It is too buggy and creates too many problems with older programs. But then others may chime in and crow about how great it is. To me it is kind of like putting bias ply tires on a Porsche... You could make it work... But why would you want to?

All you need to load xp is a oem xp pro disk ( borrow it)
You should have your windows coa on the bottom of the cf-29
And get the drivers for your model from the panasonic download site

Well that would work but I am not around many people that use XP. I'll just check with my company's IMO and if not then I'll order a copy. Thanks.

!!! what do they use? 2000?

If you already have a copy of Vista around, might as well use it. Otherwise, get XP... your 29 will thank you immensely for it. If you DO load Vista, turn off ALL the bells and whistles. The 29 video card wasn't made to run all that fancy Aero stuff (you'll the lowest 1.0 score rating anyway) and while Vista will turn off things your system isn't obviously compatible with, it will still try to make it look pretty. And bring the system to its knees if doing anything else than running the bare OS.

.. oh yeah, load it up with as much RAM as you can. On the mk5 you can put in a 1GB DDR-2 stick. Vista still won't be happy until you give it 2-4GB of RAM.

Agreed. I would NOT run Vista on any machine without at least 2GB or RAM. The speed difference between Vista and XP on anything under 2GB RAM is night and day.

I heard that Microsoft is delaying the phase out of XP Pro which was originally supposed to be gone as of 3/09... Last I heard they were going to carry it through 2010... Or at least were talking about it.

By the way Rob... Not boils... Herpes... Vista gives you Herpes!

I have my 29 set up to dual boot. Everything works fine in Vista, including GPS, sound and touchscreen. For checking email and general web surfing (I'm on the Vista side now), I don't find any problems. I don't find it horribly slow or anything. For anything I have to do that required productivity and multitasking, I boot it to XP.
