Has anyone maxed out their RAM and put Vista on a 29? I'm debating weather or not to try it.

I've heard so many mixed reviews about Vista. I hear from a lot it loves memory, so I'm not sure about that because I only have 1.25GB of ram on my machine.

I'm kind of stuck in the middle if I should try this or not. Someone push me to one side or the other!

Don't bother. Vista will make your machine feel 2 generations older. Actually, it'll be pretty peppy when you first install it, but once you start loading applications (so you can actually USE the computer) it'll really start bogging down. It'll be even worse if you have Ultimate and try to turn on all the pretty GUI features. I have Vista Ultimate running on my Macbook Pro (2.4GHz C2D / 4GB RAM) and it boots up as fast as XP Pro on my 1.6GHz Pm CF-29.

It IS pretty though. But that's why I have a Mac. :)

How about Home Basic? Anyone try that?

Stick with XP SP3. Really. If you have Home Basic, it's basically XP with a bunch of frills and annoyances. Might as well stick with a tried-and-true OS (aka XP)

The hardware on your cf-29 is just not up to the task to run vista properly.
There is a reason that panasonic ships out cf-19s and cf-30s with xp downgrade disks.

Vista Business on my cf-19 uses 1.1gb of ram at idle.
It is way slower than xp and is not as compatable as xp is with some applications.

    I can't recommend it
I have installed it , and I am using it mostly for troubleshooting on customers computers.

Well I am running Vista on my CF-29 Mk2 and it is actually running better than my install of XP...my one issue is that I can not find a compatible hotkey driver anywhere...all the other drivers do work though!

If anyone has any suggestions on the hotkey stuff please post!

Bond. You need James Bond. Check his server, I think he might have the drivers you seek (JB007RULES).

I set up my CF-29 to dual boot between XP and Vista. I use XP when I need to multitask and to actual work. For just messing around and surfing the web, I can use Vista and it runs fine.

Every aspect of my 29 works in Vista on XP drivers.

I personally think that putting vista on a cf-29 and slowing the performance down is unacceptable.

I tweak my older toughbooks to gain every little bit of performance out of them

To do all that and then suffer the performance hit under vista doesn’t make much sense to me

I did load xp onto a cf-25 with a 166mhz processor and 96mb ram once
I was having a compatibility problem under w98 running some programs, and after installing xp the programs ran ok
The boot time was very very slow and the crispness that I had on w98 was gone completely
    That cf-25 was slow !!!

I even notice the performance hit with vista on my cf-19
And the components in my cf-19 are a lot more advanced in comparison to the cf-29

Dual booting is a good option.

That way you can really compare just how slow vista is compared to xp. :)

If the wxp hotkey drivers don't install correctly
You will not have the abillity to adjust the screen brightness

Here how it works; extract the hotkey driver from a new folder not by using the self extraction type that pana.. provided. Use winrar software. Afterthat go to device manager then update your unknown key and browse where the hotkey folder and hit ok.

You can always adjust your gamma under display settings. It's a cheap way of doing it but it will appear brighter. You might also need to adjust your contrast as well.
