I know W7 on a CF-29 is commonplace now but after two failed attempts at a fresh install from the iso download - no touch, crazy mouse, all kinds of aggravation - I'd put it on the back burner for now.
Cloned my CF-19 Mk.1 drive (W7 + other stuff) to a new ssd and put the old drive in a 29 Mk.5 using a cheap pata/sata adapter.
The plan was to install XP but the W7 from the 19 loaded and worked a lot better than I'd managed with my previous efforts.
Touchscreen calibrated & touchpad worked perfectly right away.
Three warnings in device manager. Proset fixed the wireless, leaving only two -Multimedia Audio Controller and Video Controller - to fix when I have some spare time. I hope.
Each time I switch on I'm expecting disaster but so far so good. If it's still OK in a week or so I'll buy a licence and try an update.
I still have no idea why it worked though...
    Yours truly,
    Village Idiot
