AHHHHH!!! So here we are A-G-A-I-N, with ANOTHER freakin problem with my 31... What do you all think about this poop?

Every now and then the frakkin hotkey's just cut out! The screen will go to FULL BLAST (Blinding in low light!!! ) and I can't adjust it back until I REBOOT!

WHY!!! GOD!!!! WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S, the little utility that Panny just came out with AND the windows utility to adjust screen brightness, BOTH don't work when this happens...

This is usually when resuming from standby, etc...

I've been using "Standby" for the last 6 years since the CF-29 days... Until I owned this 31 I have NEVER had a problem with it.....

    Hi Rob

I always disable standby, hibernating, system restore and screen savers. It seems like this 31 has been a real bitter lemon. Do you ever get a 53?

Hmmmm. I was contemplating a CF-31 when I got the cash... Anyone beside Rob have any issues?

Rob... Be honest... Did you ever wing your CF-31 against a wall? I know you are fond of doing that...

Wouldn't be fully rugged if it couldn't take a few tosses against a wall. :)

NOT YET! I am VERY close to "winging" it against the wall...

    EHH!

As far as the little problems that drive me BAT SH(T crazy, the CF-31 is a WORTH WHILE upgrade from the 30 Rick! (Especially when you buy it from me ;) :D ). The performance and the HDMI alone are worth it!

Are you running XP or Win7 ?

These problems went away for me when I got rid of XP.

I noticed the same thing on my boss' CF-31. And that one runs Seven.

EDIT: Seriously, I get a CF-29 and a month later everyone at my workplace has a toughbook.

My hotkeys on the 31 have never stopped working completely even when coming back from standby or hibernate but when I boot up and I get to the Windows screen to enter my PW, the screen doesn't revert back to the brightness level I had previously set until about 10 seconds later. I don't know why it does it, but that's the only oddity I've had with the brightness.

It's ridiculous, because while some problems went away upon reloading windows 7, new problems came up:

    BEFORE RELOAD:
    1) Screen randomly wouldn't work after resuming from standby - had to shut lid and open back up to fix - fixed with reload
    2) WWAN wouldn't work very well WHATSOEVER - fixed with reload
    3) Touchscreen mode in windows 7 not working right - STILL NOT FIXED

    AFTER RELOAD:
    1) Hotkey drivers not working right randomly after resume from standby.

3 to 1 here... kinda win???

as someone mentioned upthread I always disable standby, remove the hibersys file etc. Standby problems are a pain. Some people never have any problems, others...stuff just stops working/acts wonky resuming from it. I'd rather not deal with the headache.

If you have the OS disc you can simply perform an in-place repair install. This will re-install any bad or missing files that the OS needs.

Mine boots in a pimpin' 30 seconds from cold. If you tweak the services you can probably get that to 20.

well it's a tradeoff. :p I would rather lose the 45 odd seconds booting up, than dealing with lost hours trying to figure out what went wrong where. Like Danny Glover said "I'm too old for this #$%!". :D
i've found out that most stuff can wait a little bit. Now if I was in a warzone I might change my mind.

Thats the biggest problem on the latest model of toughbook without a complete support on panny site. Like for example. The TS/tablet issue on CF-30. The CF-30MK1 model is much more easy to handle in terms of loading a win 7 dual boot with Win Xp. I've notice on MK1 model on the bios that TS is not visible while on MK2 and above, it is visible and has an option for TS/tablet and when you have two operating system on this model you can't just reboot to switch to another OS without a problematic TS function. You need to reboot it twice before you can have a TS normal function while on MK1 it only nedd just one reboot and your set.

You (all of or most of the readers)won't care but with Linux,CF-30 Mk II and above are wonky. Mark 1 has no issues.
Does it have anything to do with the crappy use of ACPI? What I mean is in Linux (Ubuntu)....to boot a Mark 2 you must disable ACPI. Which means no function keys etc.
    Comments?
The problem may be with Intel/or whatever innards.(guts) Correct me please .....I'm just learning.

    I don't care enough to research further I'm designing a 100% leather Toughbook. :D

I have not used the screen saver feature in a very long time. I simply close the screen lid and it turns off the screen, it goes to sleep in 30 minutes. In 5 to 10 seconds I am up and running whether it's been an hour or overnight.

I disabled Hibernation as per here from the command line Jeff: Hibernate - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Forums And I do NOT ever have a screen saver anyways. I have it set to dim after 10 min and turn screen off after 15.

    Thanks
