I'm looking for the Rev A "carrier" part number so I can try to order it... if anyone has the WWAN CDMA/HSDPA, GPS sleds, etc. could you help by posting the number on the PC boards and perhaps a macro photo if possible?
I'm convinced that all of the sled circuit boards are the same, while the WWAN modem carrier boards are different in order to have the right connector for the card, and GPS.
Here's mine:
CF-29, Bell Mobility 1xRTT (SB555,) no GPS
sled circuit board: DFUP1301ZB(1)

All of the sled boards are different. From the SB555 Sled to the rev.0 EVDO then a change again on the Rev.A evdo.
We will need a Rev. A pcb board part number to use the MC5725
The SB555 boards are two pieces and the EVDO boards are one piece.
The Rev.0 boards have the proprietary connector on the board and can have gps installed on the sled.
The Rev.A boards have a mini pci-e connector and cannot have GPS installed on the sled. There are two reasons for this. One reason is it has no GPS connector on the board and the other is the PCB takes up the space where the GPS antenna sits. The reason they do not offer GPS on the Rev. A sleds is because the Rev.A sleds where made for the CF-30 and the CF-30 GPS in not on the sled but under the keyboard and the antenna is on top of the LCD.
If you have GPS you will loose it on the CF-29 if you go Rev.A
Unless you can find a very odd Rev.A sled from a MK5 CF-29

Hmmmm... I don't mean to hijack the thread... But since you brought up the GPS issue.... I have a question. I just installed stock GPS kit into a sled for a CF-29. The sled was not made for holding the GPS engine but none of the ones I've ever had were made for it. You can make room for them though by snapping off a small tab on the inside of the sled. I have done this 5-6 times and never had a problem and the GPS has always worked. Until tonight. I fired up the SB555 Watcher on both laptops and verified that they work. Then I installed the GPS on one of the sleds and installed it into the CF-29. GPS is on AUTO in the BIOS but I get nothing on COM 3 or 4 where it usually shows up.
Any ideas? -
I found one of the little white fuses blown on the pc board on the sled and soldered in another... Still no joy. I wonder if the dip switches would change anything for the better?

Sounds like you might have something wrong with the sled PCB especially since the little fuse was blown. You said you have two of the sleds does it work on the other sled?
We also talked about the dip switches in another thread somewhere. I don't think that the switches made any difference but it might.

TB, I have had that issue several times. Right now I have a blown fuse but have not tried soldering a new one on yet. One thing to try, as odd as it sounds, is to replace the ribbon cable from the sled to CF18. I have done this 3 or 4 times and got the GPS working again. And the funny thing is, if I put the old ribbon back on, it worked as well? I am not sure why, but maybe there is some 'resetting' of something that happens when you do this? Give it a try and let us know if it works.

Doobi
That would be like cold starting the gps I think ?

Probably, but I tried removing the unit and leaving it out for up to 3 days with no luck. By replacing that cable, it worked immediately. And swapping it back, it worked immediately. Never could figure out why, just chalked it up to the majik laptop Gods and sighed relief. Now, it has become one of the first things I try if I get a machine that GPS doesn't work. So far, of the 5 I've had, 4 worked by doing this and the 5th, my machine of course, has a blown fuse. I'm still waiting the nerve to try the soldering. I bought 1amp/250v fuses that have long leads on both ends and hope this will work. I could never find really small ones like the ones on the board.

Hmmmmm... I'll bring in a new cable with me to work tomorrow and swap out the cable... Thanks for the Heads Up Doobi! Glad to see you are still around! (Mr. Chessmaster!)

I'm trying to identify this Toughbook WWAN sled and MiniCard. I'm having a pretty hard time finding part numbers for this thing. I'll also need to find device drivers for it once I figure out what it is.
It says HSDPA on the sticker and "DFMD3128" is stamped into the metal that covers the MiniCard.
Beneath the open plastic door you would insert your AT&T/Cingular SIM card.
This came out of a CF-29 (and I'm pretty sure it would fit into a CF-30 as well).
Anyone have an idea on how to positively identify this card?
I'll attach a couple of pictures. Thanks.
