Hi all, i am writing with my just configured cf19 :D and i have a question regarding wwan module.

I installed with a restore disk my cf19 and I am trying to connect with wwan to the internet.
I am in Italy and I have a sim with data plan. I have installed the sierra driver but I think I miss the software who manage the connection.
I tried with some configuration found online but I think I need a software who unlocks the simcard asking me the pin and then configure the connection.

Something like the software you receive with the internet usb key you can buy from mobile isp.

Thank you very much and sorry for my poor english.

I think the wwan module is not "original installed" but also, i think the driver works fine (when i turn on th wwan i ear the sound a new periferic is plugged in and a iss a icon with lan not connected)

Tha missing part is a software who menage the connection details like apn, password, sim pin code, etc.

Thank you for your cooperation :)

    Model Number: CF-19CHBAXBM
    Status: DISCONTINUED
    MSRP: $3,599 [U.S.]

Description: Windows XP Pro, Intel Core Duo U2400 1.06GHz (Centrino), 10.4" XGA Touch Screen, 80GB HDD, 512MB Base RAM, Intel 802.11a/b/g WLAN, Dual Pass Hi-Gain Antenna Through Connectors, TPM1.2 Security Chip, Bluetooth, No Optical Drive

This appears to be an OEM WWAN card from an IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad.

You will need a Connection Manager software, which should provide the drivers you need. This should be available from your wireless broadband provider.

Look what I found while researching this: :)

Sierra Wireless AirPrime™ MC Series High-speed 3G/4G modules.

This isn't how things work in Europe - the wireless operator only provides the SIM card and logon details (apn/user/pass) and leave drivers & connection managers to the hardware manufacturers.

Tat0 - If the drivers are installed your options are:
    1) Find a connection manager from the wwan module manufacturer (normally I would say from Panasonic, but the Sierra module was never used in Europe so there isn't one).
    2) Use Windows 7 and hope that the drivers are Win7 compatible, thereby using the inbuild Win7 WWAN connection manager.
    3) Use Dial-Up Networking in Windows XP to run the connection, although this won't be able to see the signal strength or technology used.

    Thank you all !

I tried a sw i had for my internet usb key but it doesn't "see" the sierra card, i tried another one open sw but same result.

i have xp so win7 for now is not my solution, also because i use usb connection with an android cell to connect to internet so for now i am safe.
I want to solve the problem for personal satisfaction and also for when i will not have my android phone with me or when it will be out of battery.

i have posted a question in the sierra forum today, i will keep you all informed. :)

The MC5720 is a CDMA Rev0 card if that is indeed what you have (see this page I'm currently working on: WWAN Resources - ToughWiki) so it will not work on a GSM network with a SIM card as CDMA devices do not have a SIM slot. Furthermore, the modem may be locked to a particular carrier.

I'd say your best bet is to find an HSPA modem on the Internet. Many sellers in eBay offer carrier/network-unlocked modems but be weary of BIOS-locked ones (eg. a Gobi (non-carrier specific modem) that only works on an HP or Lenovo computer.)

Try mobilink software. It is the right software for 5720 module.

Ah yes - seems to be a CDMA card. You'll find bugger all networks to connect to in Europe!

The SIM slot is part of the provision for the WWAN system but is not necessarily used by the card. In your case with a CDMA card, it is not used.

I changed this wwan with another one. The people who sold me the notebook exchanged it and i am not able to find the driver for this card. I am a disappointed, i lost a lot of time for this problem.

Now i want to buy a new board to solve the problem.

My question is: can you help me to find a right card who work in my cf19 with winxp, in europe (Italy) and with 2 coax connection ?
My question n°2 is, ""mini-pcie"" is the right plug i have in my cf19 ??

Thank you very much for cooperation.

Well the CF-19 mk1 was supplied with a Novatel EU740 module in Europe so I'd wager that's your best bet if at all possible.

Now that i see the name novotel eu740 i think the card i have now could be this model. i attach a pic and i ask you if this is that model. (no name on the card so i need to ask you)
if this is the novotel card, can you please telm me where to take a driver ?
i tired with pc control panel / pid and google but i found only dell notebook driver and when i install them they told me "not a dell notebook" so i opened this thred to find onother one card.

Other question, (this card have a single coax connectors, is this normal ?

Last question, ROB, if i don't solve the problem, where can i buy one of yours EU870 card ? Here / ebay / mail ?

Thank you all for cooperation. :)

Yes that's the EU740. One connector is correct, EU870 has 2. Don't know about drivers. EU740 connects at 1.8 Mbps. EU870 is 3.6 Mbps upgradeable to 7.2 Mbps.

Tested eu740 with mobilink software, no sim found also when i insert my sim in the sim slot in the cf19.
Same story with the new eu870 arrived today.

Maybe the problem is not the card but the sim holder. Any idea to check if this slot works ? I need to anable something anywhere ?

I am really frustrated for this, also if i use this wwan 1 times in a year i hate not to be able to solve the problem.

    Thank you all for cooperation.

I assume that the dip switches are set to HSDPA. Periodically I've seen the "no sim found" on my TB's with EU860D and Mobilink. I don't know what causes it but, I've been able to get it working again. Try removing the battery and unplugging the power supply. You may need to create a custom profile in Mobilink.

Holy after 2 time powerdown and battery unplug this toughbook started to work fine!!!!!

Thank you all, i really appreciated your help !!!!!!!!!!

Deep switch was good but the battery unplug has been the solution (i think)

Had some problems with sim not recognized, i think to unplug the battery is the solution for now.

    Thank you all again!

Hi, searching for information about my MC5725 card I found this thread... and I have the same problem (and I'm italian too :hi2: ).
I have a CF-30 and I cannot get the sim card recognized. I followed the same steps as Tat0 and I arrived to the same dead point... So, I have a couple of questions before spending more money: what exactly should I buy to make it working? Do I have to buy just the EU870 module or do I have to search for an full module already made for the CF-30? If I change just the module with this one for example
    dell_wwan_nbznrm-eu870d.jpg
how should I set the dip-switches?
    Thanks!

Hi gpc, where are you from ?
Have you tried to put in the sim, unplug the battery, wait 30 seconds and then put the battery in ?

    Ciao!

Hi Tat0, I'm from Ferrara, but I live in Spain... Nice website
No, I didn't try that, because my WWAN module is for US market and I was told that it doesn't even use the SIM. I was able to have it recognized with the Verizon software, but no more than that.
I found a EU870 with no sim lock at 12€ from Germany and I will receive it in a few days, but I need to know how to set the jumper on the sled...

    Ciao!

Hi guys! I have the Novatel EU740 and I found drivers here and you can use novatel software to configure your APN and so on.
The sim card problem is not related with the battery, you must plug the SIM before Power on the laptop, as show on cf-19 manual! So you must put the sim card, and then power on the pc, you cannot change sim cards while laptop on.
I have all working, drivers, software, a and I can send SMS and receive, but no internet connection... :( When I click connect Error 692 appears : There was a hardware failure in the modem (or other connecting device).

Any one had this king of problem?
