I had purchased my gf a cf18 awhile back for a very good price. She needs to run photoshop. What can I do to make this unit run photoshop? Or do I need to bite the bullet and upgrade her to a different toughbook? Hers is
CF18KDHQXVA serial number 6CKUA85345. It has 1g or ram and a 60g hdd
v4.00L13 bios. Any help would be appreciated.

I agree with Shawn. Try an older version. maybe Photoshop 5 if you can find it. Anything newer will need at least a dual core processor ant no less then 2GB of ram.
Also the Intel video chip is very slow on a CF18..

Does it have to be photoshop? Download GIMP and see how it runs. Open source and will do what photo shop will do. Also if she is use to runnning photoshop and knows were all the buttons are their is a reskin for it to make it look like photoshop. Portableapps.com also has a portable version. You can use photoshop and GIMP brushes with it. Ton of free brushes out on the net. Also if the current version is too much they have the over versions archived for download.

GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

Also the CF-19's have come down in price if you think that may also be a option.

Photoshop 7 has always run great for me on CF-28s/29s and 30s...

Should be able to pick it up fairly cheap too!

Sorry, there is no Photoshop 7... You are thinking of Paint Shop Pro 7 (PSP 7) offered in different versions. I have the ESD PSP 7. As for Photoshop I have CS 5, CS 6, Lightroom 4.4 and Elements 10. I run them on my CF 19 MK IV, Windows 8.1, 64 Bit. Works good. Problem, you don't get full screen detail that you can with a larger screen. Coupled with my Wacom, they all do want I want it to do which is edit my photos, not professional stuff. I would look at Mac for doing pro stuff, if that is what she wants. Hope this helps give you an idea of a starting point.

You are incorrect... I am running Adobe Photoshop 7.0 on several laptops and desktops... It works great.

    Google it....

EDIT - Granted... It is probably 10 years old... But it works very well..

PanasonicWaterUndefeated01.jpg Thanks for the tip about GIMP 2.8, was familiar with it from using Linux did not know that they had a Windows version. Runs great on my CF-18 Mk2. Played with it less than 10 minutes and edited one of my desktop backgrounds.

My bad.... I had 5 and thought they stopped. Most humblest apologies. That was 11 years ago and my sometimers kicked in. ANyway, hopefully forgiven for my error. PSP is pretty good though and works ok for some stuff. CS5 and 6 will work on CF 19 with right hardware....
