I'm putting together a series of "Tuff-Kits" for DIY upgrading model CF-28. Looking for a few people to try out the kits and help make them ready for public consumption. Tuff-Kits ready or in the works include:
Tuff-Kit #1: Emissive Keyboard
Add a chicklet style backlit emissive keyboard to CF-28 Mk-2 or Mk-3. Includes keyboard, wiring, and the "rare" inverter board needed to light it up. Est price >$100. Difficulty level: 3 (of 1-5)
Tuff-Kit #2: OEM WiFi
Add factory 802.11b wifi to any CF-28. Includes 100mW Cisco 352 card for "hidden" PCMCIA slot, internal cable with rear port, and extendable antenna for display backshell. Est price ~$80. Difficulty level: 4
Tuff-Kit #3: OEM LAN
Add factory LAN to any CF-28 especially Mk-1 that often had only a modem. Includes OEM LAN mini-PCI card and left side panel with OEM modem and LAN ports. Est price ~$40. Difficulty level: 2
Tuff-Kit #4: CF-28S Mk-3 Barebones
Upgrade your 600 or 800 MHz to 1 GHz. Includes complete chassis and tested motherboard, with options for touchscreen display and/or keyboard. Need to use your own HDD and caddy, battery, RAM, mini-PCI cards, etc.
Est price ~$60 for chassis only, plus ~$25 for display and/or $15 for keyboard.
All Tuff-Kits have used but tested OEM parts. I'll be posting some of these soon on our Buy-Sell-Trade Forum. If you are interested in Beta testing one of these Tuff-Kits shoot me a PM or email.

I would be interested in Tuff-kit #4 if it has 512mb of onboard ram.

At least my kit comes with detailed instructions and the precision screwdriver needed to do a professional job. (And the Beta test kit costs less.) -
That seller has been around on Ebay for years
Sells the odd Toughbook ,but is well know for having unusual Toughbook parts/accessories
Not too unreasonable on his prices, unlike some others, I bought a cf-30 display from him last month

Yeah, I bought a couple of CF-29 dock antenna couplings and he gave me a break on the prices. Seems like a decent seller.

Yup... I've bought from Cybertools... They are 100% okay to deal with... VERY fair and square. Usually hard to find parts too.
My first thought was that the setup in the link was a little expensive... But it is relative to availability... So I guess in reality it is cheap! -
Hey Springfield, the new chassis is working great! If anybody wants to buy anything from Springfield, he'll go out of his way to make sure you are taken care of. Thanks again.
Rep point for you Ken! -
