There was something similar a few years ago called golden shellback.

Might be waterproof but I still can't drop the damn thing...
My toddler poked at my thinkpad screen like she did my toughbook... Now I have pressure marks what will cost $750 if I want to replace the LCD...

This is sooooo old technology! I used to work with MOD stuff for nuc subs/torperdo's and pretty much every electronic component/CB had this coating. Now I am not going to admit I used to spray it on the ignition system of my old mini, the distributor/coil/plugs/dynamo were always getting shorted/ruined because they took the full brunt of wet weather, mine never missed a beat.......allegedly :D

Like everything I suppose, eventually it has to make it's way down to joe public, still great video and brought back old memories.

It's not just water that needs rolling off, it also needs to protect everything from short circuiting. And although it might do so for a short time, I seriously doubt it will do so for prolonged times. Circuit boards have been coated with epoxy or silicon based products for quite some years and it saved often the day (or the device), but it's not bulletproof like a toughbook

Adsorptive sprays like this have been around for a while; the weakness is that they are not durable and you can rub them off just handling the devices in question. So... great for things you don't handle. Not so great for things with control surfaces and keyboards. Also, they are only as effective as the differential between surrounding water's atmospheric pressure and the strength of its surface tension. In English? It works less over larger gaps and at deeper immersion.

    Yey, Mad Science.

    I gotta ask.
Why would anyone waterproof a Stinkpad? I mean, just buy a Toughbook and then you will throw the Stinkpad in the lake just to watch it sink. Preferably while it is running Windoze to get more satisfaction. :D
    Waterproof coatings are cool though.

So the stinkpad becomes a sinkpad? :)
Sorry, I had to do it.

During emergent flood/water type situations, I like to use a condom to waterproof my phone.
It floods often where I live. When It does, I drive my family to the inlaws, and walk 2 miles home, usually through 3' deep water wind and rain. that trick has saved my phones a few times.

    really.

Here's a start-up that will apply the waterproof coating to your current phone for $59 .... and a fairly impressive video supporting their claims:

For $59, startup company will ‘waterproof’ your smartphone | SmartPlanet

Of course, if you take them up on their service, you'll have to figure out what to do with those extra unused condoms???????? ;)
