So, my touch screen was working just fine, then the other day I powered it up and my pointer is all the way to the right. I have vertical control, just not horizontal.
I tried recalibrating it, but, its "stuck" on the right side.
(I don't use the touch screen all that much, if at all)
Ideas?

Most likely some gunk stuck under the bezel of the screen. Do a search on this board for touchscreen calibration and you'll come up with a lot people with the same problem.
I've just taken a piece of cardboard and ran it lightly around the edges to dislodge the dirt and the recalibration worked fine afterwards... -
It is one of two things... Either gunk built up between the touchscreen bezel and the touchscreen itself or it could also be the touchpad. Use a very thin piece of plastic... Like small slice out of a 2 liter soda bottle... (like a .25" X 2" piece... Or some old touchscreen protector stock cut in the same dimensions.) Carefully try to fish out the gunk between the gaps. CAREFULLY.... If this is the issue you can actually make it worse by forcing it in deeper.
The other thing it could be is that your touchscreen has gone bad. This is something that happens to all CF-29s, some CF-18s and some CF-30s. -
mine had the same problem, but the pointer just jumped to the bottom...
Mine was fixed with the 3 month PlanitRoi warranty! -
Faulty touchscreen more often than not.

@ Toughbook Exchange
I hope not
The early toughbooks were were good, hopefully panasonic has updated to improve reliability , when touchscreen issues started showing up
I have had personally had no issues with the cf-28's and the early mk1 and mk2 cf-29s, but find the mk-4 and mk-5's to have a high failure rate
+ the cf-74 series

The issue isn't necessarily Panasonic-specific, but rather effects all touchscreen devices at some point or another, Tomcat57. Currently I have large quantities of units here in our warehouse that would only require touchscreen repair. As it's been explained to me by several people within the Panasonic community the layers between the touchscreen begin to separate over time with increased usage and wear, pressure, humidity, and several other factors, which cause the calibration to fail after several years. Many people view the touchscreen to be a consumable item much like a battery because of this.

If the "touch" of the touchscreen does go south permanently, is it possible just to bypass it altogether and just use the touchpad and mouse? That is, can you free up the cursor by disabling the touchscreen? ("Yes, but you'll need the cursor to disable the touchscreen . . .".)
-
Stew.... When the touchscreen goes south... You can continue using the touchpad or external mouse with no issues.

I was hoping that was the answer Rick--thanks.

Tried the trick with the small bit of pop-bottle plastic that was recommended.
PERFECT!!! I ran it around the edges as I rotated the screen such that anything that came out would fall down and out of the screen area.
Small bit of paper dropped out from the side and I was back in action.
(had to recalibrate the screen, but, not an issue)
Thanks for the recommendations, everyone. -
I can't believe how much crud was in the little crevice around the screen on mine! thanks
Weird error on CF-29 touch screen ...
