    I have used OziExplorer for several years. It is great for offroad and hiking. It uses Topo maps that can be downloaded for free or at very little cost. It does require a little experience with this type of map. They offer a free version that works great for uploading routes and waypoints to handheld GPS but you must purchase the upgrade to get real time, on-screen map tracking.

    It does not offer turn by turn navigation. Now that I have a TB I am interseted in on road navigation. What software is everyone using? Is anyone using something to send the sound through their soundsystem?

    TopoFusion is Good software and is updated all the time. MS Streets I use for Roads themself. But for Topo I use TopoFusion, they Photos are Free unlike Delorme which charges you for Terraserver Free files. I use GoogleEarth with Saved Cashe of 2GB which is the Max for Remote use and more up to date photos.

    I was using Microsoft Streets and Trips 2007 up until recently, and it has now become my secondary GPS software.
    I recently purchased INav's IGuiudance 4.0 and have found it works EXTREMELY well for on road navigation with the Toughbooks.
    If you have a touchscreen and want GPS software that maximizes touchscreen menus so that you can use it easily while mobile then IGuidance is the way to go.

    Here are some screenshots .... and NO I don't live in Toronto.

    Here is one of Toronto in one of the 3D mode with night time color....

    Here is the Menu that pops up when you touch the "MENU" in the bottom left...

    And here is a different color scheme.....

    *Note S&T is still better at trip planning and has a more functional custom Points of Interests options (you can add custom Points of Interests in S&T and add hyper links to web or to files on local PC)

    I am also using FRANSON GATE from http://franson.com/ to take a single GPS datastream and send it to multiple software programs. It can send data to unused real or virtual COM ports... it can send data to google earth (PRO not required), it also has MANY features I have not figured out yet! Worth looking at, I can drive and have a variety of GPS software running off the same datastream!

    I need to score iGuidance 4. I got a cheap copy of 3, and wasn't impressed enough to drop Streets and Trips.

    Streets and trips - need to look at I guidance though looks sweet - I use the one in my truck as Primary and is uses Navteq that is the same as MS so it is very similar for when I am using the TB when running mobile.

    I guess I could have just posted this link to a great review on IGuidance by Marvin Hlavac:

    <QUOTE >
    iGuidance 4 can be purchased from iNav website or through several of their distributors. Street price is around $100. Members of Laptop GPS World qualify for 10% discount when buying iGuidance, or any other laptop GPS software, at Semsons.com. Get your free discount coupons, or first register as a member of Laptop GPS World.
    <QUOTE>

    Thought you might be interested in the discount, also IGv4 can be found on ebay, and other online stores!

    <EDIT>
    Oh yeah, and if you don't have enough Mods to keep up with here, there is an active group "Modding' IGuidance to give custom menus, colors, icons, you name it they can probably do it: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gps/108547-iguidance-hacks.html

    I'm seeing it crash (iGuidance w/stock GPS) when I have tracking turned on (saving your tracks) I think it's when the GPS breaks lock. I haven't had a chance to talk to Navtech about this. I don't need to "navigate" in the city much and OziExplorer now is more important to me. I'd use it more perhaps but where I live, the iGuidance maps are empty :)

    I haven't tried recording tracks yeton IGuidance, I will do so and see if I am having the same trouble or not, although I am using an external vehicle mount GPS (MR3500) hooked to serial port on my Ram Mount, so I get very good reception. It may be difficult to break the gps lock while driving. Perhaps if I drive for a bit, and then cover the gps with tin foil!

    I still use S&T for most of my track recording because I can insert custom push pins at any point, usually I will record customer data along with a hyper link to the customer data on my Toughbook. For example, I do lots of work at MALLS, so I have a Push Pin at the mall with a hyperlink like "file://C:/Mall Maps/map.jpg" so when I get to the mall I can click on the link and up comes a scanned copy of the retailer maps so I know which side of the mall to park on!!!
    I can also link directly to file folders so I remember where I saved the customer word / excel files.

    I did notice that S&T can get real slow or lock up on large tracking records, the work around I found is to occasionally SAVE the file, then its as if it is starting fresh again.

    I used the same GPS when I went to the north london parachute centre but it's not so easy to read in the air!

    Guys, u should try this www.garmin.com/products/garminmobilepc/ Garmin Mobile PC or shorter: GMPC. It need less resources, has a day n night modus, it is also good for touchscreen use and u can use all maps, which exists for garmin handhelds and u can use opengpsmaps or openmaps. It rocks on my cf29 (at the moment in NZ).

    Mmmhmnmm... for only $60 MSRP, seems a pretty fair deal. My first two GPSes were Magellan, but I'm using a Garmin Nuvi right now that's great, and uber-convenient.
