What happened to the toughbook configurator? Looks different and no discontinued models list. Must have just happened or changed the link? Any info, I am constantly looking up the model numbers checking out options and info? I think I'm about to go into withdrawal or at least the DT's. Help I need my security blanket!............Driller

as many times as I've looked up the info, is there somewhere on the forum that has all these codes listed or somewhere one can get a copy of this list for the different discontinued models? Do we need to compile the list for FAQ or maybe even a sticky. I'm sure the sages already have this list somewhere and can, as they said in "Blazing Saddles" whip this out....Driller

Well, if we must, now would be a GOOD time to start developing toughwiki.com with all the old models...

I'm only selling CF-30's and 19's now so the old crap is actually fine that it's gone. Yes, I'm sure that it will bite me in the @$$ some day, but I'll cross that bridge when it comes. :p :D

For those here that don't know what we are talking about here is a link
    CF-29 - ToughWiki

That is an excelent source of info on the cf-29 model started by forum member canuckcam (Phil) and continued on byJB007Rules (Rob)

    BTW
Rick Teo and myself can without much thought configure a cf-29 model # in our heads

It's there and it's working. I once grabbed the page and saved it and it worked! Any HTML guys out there know how I did that, I don't remember. "Old Timers" I guess.
    CAP
Edit: I did it by viewing the page source. I can do that in Firefox, but can't find that button in IE. If some one knows how to view the page source in IE, you can copy the Configurator, save it, and post it in the stickies. Some seller on fleaBay had the configurator in his auction at one point. Sounds like a job for TopCop, he'll be lost if the Configurator goes away :D

Working great again in IE8 :)
I thought Rob would have been the one here to sort this out as he knows his internets

Thanks for fixing that Cap ;)

I compiled a model number list in a new thread. Now we can decipher the cf29 forever and ever.

    That list looks familiar.....Anyway

Next, if we are sticking with old models we need the cf-73 covered

The cf-18 and cf-28 and cf-51 is covered somewhere here as I remember , the cf-72 info is here
    http://toughbook.wikispaces.com/cf-72

I cut and pasted my other post with everything I could extract from the configurator. I figure sometime Panny will delete it, so now we have a complete list to add to the FAQ if you want. Plus that list works with any browser anywhere.

You must have the "Command Line" visible in the Tool Bar.

From there you select the "Page" selection, then scroll down to the "View Source" selection.

    :eek2: :swoon:

    YIKES!

    :confused2:

Fortunately, it seems to still be there and working correctly:

"You must have the "Command Line" visible in the Tool Bar.

I'll look into that. I only have whatever IE is on the CF-30 restore disk, 6 I believe, and no updates. I use IE strictly for the Configurator and no other site. I can't remember when I last encountered another site FF wouldn't open.
My other point was that you can copy the page source HTML for each model from the Configurator, save it, and then open it and use it right on your computer with no need to log on to anything. Some one who knows more about HTML than I do might be able to post the Configurators in the stickies or in the "Triple Secret Squirrel Place". I know that at least one seller was able to embed the Configurator in a eBay auction listing.

I threw the bait out in post #11 but he didn't bite :D
I know the whole Configurator can be copied and saved, I did it once, and it was fully functional. I just can't remember how I did it and what to use to open it once you've got it. Basically its just a web page. Someone has to know enough about HTML to get this done, maybe Azrial. He did a pretty slick trick with that link to his search.

I have saved each of the models from the Panasonic Toughbook configurator; should it ever go down permanently if I have the time I'll build a new one with PHP.

I have been wondering the same thing myself, as I was trying to find if there was anywhere on the Internet that still had it.

Archive.org has one of the Configurator entry pages archived, but so far I haven't been able to do much beyond loading the page. Archive.org is usually slow.

You can configure the newer Model Toughbooks (CF-19, CF-30, CF-31, CF-52 and CF-74; just to name a few) here:

    Configure Products

Though more difficult than using the old, now apparently "defunct," Toughbook Configurator, you can use ToughWIKI to put together your own configuration on the CF-28 and CF-29 Toughbooks.

Between these two sources you should be able to configure most of the Toughbooks discussed here in the Forum.

Thanks, it does look like our favorite utility is gone for good with the new utility replacing it

A simple google search is better to find out what you have, by searching the model number, although take anything you read off the internet with a grain of salt
