I see only one serial port (COM1). What is COM2? I uninstall thinking it was virtual but COM2 reinstalls after re-boot.

Com 2 is the Serial port B in the bios
Thats applicable on my mk-1
Used for second com port on docking station

So it only shows because BIOS is enabled? There is no physical port?
-
Correct
You can disable it in the bios

Thanks Tomcat...If I am using a breakout box with dual serial ports into the docking station, I can configure COM2 as if it was just another port on the laptop itself? Anything I should watch out for?
-
The only thing to remember is that there is reservations for certain com ports
On my cf-29 mk-1 Com 3 is MP Serial port
This would possibly effect you if add a virtual com port by way of a usb serial adapter or usb gps
They default to com-4 if its available

Thanks again

I am using COM1 for serial modem, COM2 to create multiple virtual ports for GPS functionality. I'll stay away from any virtual ports under 10. This was very helpful, thanks a third time.

If you are using a usb gps it will probably have a virtual serial port installed by the gps software. It shouldn't grab a port anything else would normally be using, but if you wait to start the gps until the computer is done booting you should avoid any problems. Be sure to direct your gps apps. to that com port.

It your cf-29 is a MK1 and has OEM GPS then COM2 is used for that.
What is COM2 on CF-29
