I ran several searches but seem to only be able to find using sharpies/magic markers to touch up toughbook lower cases.

I have a toughbook that has a number written on top it in sharpie/magic marker that i need to get off.

Isopropol alcohol, the stronger 91% type.

If isopropyl doesn't get it off denatured alcohol will. It will take sharpie off clear lexan without damaging it. I don't know what the toughbook is made of, you might try a small test area first.

Brake cleaner is good, use it carefully. Spray it on a paper towel and rub the marks off.

    Guys, HONEST TO GOD HERE!

Use a dry erase marker! Take the marker and just mark all over the sharpie, it will rub off like you wouldn't believe! Use a little water or windex or simple green if some of the dry erase marker stays on, and boom you're done!

There is some chemical I found out about in these markers that take off sharpie.

Also, you can use that same dry erase marker and use it on other, less fortunate laptops (*COUGH* Apple) and it will work on them too without MELTING the plastic like brake cleaner would!

Denatured alcohol (available by the pint, quart or gallon at your local HomeOwner Hell) will take it off effortlessly without harming the original Panasonic Epoxy paint in the least bit. If someone has touched it up with Spray Bomb Silver from Wally-World, it will ALSO take that off, leaving a pristine Panasonic finish with whatever scars & warts someone was trying to hide.

It WILL attack the rubber on parts made with hard plastic and a spray-thin layer of rubber; it will not harm the plastic underneath, it will just leave it nice & shiny clean. And free of rubber, of course.

It will also remove the citrus oil residue left behind by Goo Gone.
