This is odd! I ran Ubuntu and Backtrack from the live DVD and was surprised at how well it ran with minimal configuration on my CF-29. What was your issue with it, or was it just not obscure enough for you?

I have run the latest versions of Linux mint on my CF-28 with no issues.

There are a lot of Linux variants out there. The most popular of the open-source ones would be Debian (for which Ubuntu is the latest release), but there are others such as Gentoo (which is more open-source than Debian). There are also the BSD unixes such as NetBSD, etc. which will probably also run fine on the older TB's such as CF-28's and 18's if you prefer a BSD Unix over a SYSV Unix.
I come from a Sun hardware background so I've had a fair bit to do with using non-SunOS/Solaris *nix's just not on x86 platforms (yet).
