What do I need to know about the built in Verizon service. I noticed one said GOBI Internal Cellular Modem(Sprint, Verizon) and one said it had a verizon card. GOBI Internal Cellular Modem was a $400 option, ouch.

If you travel and might want to change service providers, its a good thing as you do not need to change you wwan card
If you will be happy with the existing wwan card for your area, then it's just not that important
Here is one of many threads that we talk about Gobi

Briefly (I'm pretty sure) the Gobi is, as Tomcat said, a great option if you travel. From what I have read... GOBI's system will allow you to travel through many different service provider's area without accruing ROAM charges as GOBI has agreements with the major service providers and will then provide a bill through your regular service provider. If they participate in the plan. (Follow?)

Isn't the Qualcomm Gobi card just a combined EVDO and HSDPA modem? As far as I know, Qualcomm just makes the hardware, they have no special agreements with the carriers.(?) You would still have to pay the roaming charges when travelling, but at least the card works everywhere - the older dedicated EVDO modems have no reception in Europe, for example.
To avoid the roaming costs you can probably get some cheap local prepaid SIM when you are travelling. -
Thanks guys, I won't be needing the Goby. Gobi sounds like a name of a carebear. In my area verizon is king and I never go out of state.

AT&T - proof that being the oldest most DEFINITELY does not make you the BEST. Or even second best... or... oh, who am I kidding? If it weren't for my iPwn, I'd have kicked them to the curb a week after I got them...
