Hello.I am a newbie here, as well as new to my CF-30. I see alot of talks, like "unofficial CF29" but no CF-30? Is there one to begin with? I searched but didnt come up with one.
Glad I found this site. I believe i'm gonna wear yall out!

Ok, I will be the 1st to reply to my thread.
My CF-30 was assembled in 2/08. I have seen the links to the service packs from Panny, how often do these units require updating? Or shall I say how often does Panny come out with them?
I am pretty familier with there Plasma, Blue-Ray players firmware, software updates, but not there computers.
Thanks in advance.......... -
Most of us can't justify the expense of a current-model Toughbook for personal use, so you probably won't see much talk about CF30s for at least another year or two. We get ours when they're retired from their original usage!

Graviter, I appreciate the response. I specialize in on site fleet repairs for companies with large fleets. I was tearing up my HP laptop in my van. I started looking into a more durable computer. Thats when I found the TB. The rest was history! The hardest part was deciding how to configure it. I ended up getting the Verizon card, backlit non rubber keyboard, upgraded the ram, it came with Blue tooth as standard, and I got the combo drive. I shopped liked crazy for the best price & service. I ended up finding a company here in Atlanta that sales the crap out of these. They let me come down there and play with one in person. 2 hours later I walked out of there with it! I sat there and watched them build it right there. They ended up having the best prices and were great to deal with. The company is Buytough.com.
I have alot to learn about this thing though. Is there a big difference between the 29 and 30? -
Toyo, what model do you have? What store has them in Atlanta? I didn't know that there were any stores who displayed them. I sure would like to look at them as I'm in the market for one. Took me a lot of thinking to finally decide to buy a CF-52. Then I found that Panasonic is coming out with a new MRK II CF-52 next month so I decided to wait. In the mean time, I'm seriously considering a CF-30 but a pretty basic model in the MRK II series.

When I was reading, learning an dgetting qoutes I ran across this company. They are called Buytough.com They ended up being located in Atlanta. They do now have a brick and mortar store. I talked to the guy several times before I asked him if it would possible for me to come down there and put my eyes and hands on one myself. He said sure! They actually were the ones that were giving me the best qoutes. So, the perfect storm worked out great. I went down there, looked at them, talked to him some more, and we configured it. He told me if I did not get the GPS or Finger Print options that it would not take long at all. If you get any one of those options then Panasonic builds it for you. Well, I was not getting those options anyway. So I watched the tech guy pull my CF-30 out of the unopened box straight from Panny and start building, adding my specs to it. An hour later I was on the road surfing the net in my van. It was that easy. They must have had 30 Toughbooks lined up ready to ship when I was there. They are all very nice guys down there, I have called my salesman a couple of times for questions ans such. He has always been very helpful after the sale. Which is hard to find. I would advise anybody to give them a shot. He will not try to upsale you, or sale you a model he does not think you need. I was toying between the 52 or 30. After I explained how I was going to be using mine, he suggeste dthe 30, which I am glad he did.
His name is John. Tell him Steven sent you. No, I dont get any cuts. I am sure he would like to know or appreciate the referral. -
Sorry, I forgot the model#CF-30FSAXAM I looked it up on Panny site and it does not show the options I have on it.

Toyo,
I can't tell you how glad I was to find this thread. I have now owned 4 toughbooks in my long career and trust nothing less. Up to this point all have been purchased after lease and when my CF-28 failed a couple of weeks ago I decided to purchase new this time. After placing an order with my most trusted vendor I was told I would have my new CF-30 in a week. After the week passed I was informed that I would have to wait another 3 weeks for the Toughbook.
Now, being without a Real Laptop for a week I started searching for options and found this thread. I looked at BuyTough.com and placed an order online. 15 minutes later I received a call from John who I assume is the same John you worked with and he offered a few suggestions which saved me a LOT of money compared to the configuration I had previously ordered.
Less than 18 hours later I had my custom built ToughBook CF-30 on a Saturday morning. All I can say is the CF-30 is the best Laptop I have ever seen or used since I started my IT career over 25 years ago and BuyTough.com brings back the days when customers were treated like humans by humans and not just a credit card number.
NO I don't get anything out of this in fact I doubt John would even know who posted this.
Thanks Toyo for pointing me in the right direction. -
WanMan, you are very welcome. Think about how I felt! I knew nothing about these things, such as where to buy, how to configure etc. I ended up chatting online with John on my way across the U.S. I ended up talking to about 5 companies. Some never even got back to me. John knew I wasn't very educated on these and he went out of his way to help me and had the best price to boot.
So far I have spent about $1500.00 bucks with Gamber/Johnson setting this up in my van how I want it. I am happy as can be.
This site was a huge benefit as well. Everybody here has been very helpful and friendly.
