Hello, my Panasonic CF-71 has an empty RTC/bios battery.

Does anybody know where the RTC battery is located ? Or does anybody have a link to a service manual for the CF-71 ?

I also would like to know where the RTC/bios battery is located on the CF-27 ?

Some weeks ago i got hold of the SM of the CF-27, but the descriptions are not easy to follow. Just a exploded view of the laptops inside, but no part by part removal guide or so.

So, does anybody has some hints or tips, concerning the replacement of the RTC battery in a CF27 and CF71 ?

search yielded these answers. I have no personal experience with those models.

The CF 27 cmos battery is located under the motherboard. You will need to remove the motherboard completely to change it.

As far as the CF 71 goes, look at the pix in the fleabay auction.
They clearly show the cmos battery attached to the motherboard. It appears to be beside the modem slot. The motherboard may not need removed in this case.

I sent you a manual for the cf-27 ,with the battery description

The cf-71's ,because of their age are having issues with failed batterys
I have just been replacing the cf-71's that I sold years ago with newer Toughbooks
I could not find a manual ,but as I remember the battery was near the rear , almost under the hinge , similar to the cf-25's
They look like a coin battery with a short wire attached
Pull the bottom off and look

    Thanks for the link.

But now i have another question..

On that webpage was also written : "Just take off the modem cover and you eill see a small wire protruding from a slot in the side.

The battery is in that slot. Just pull on the wire and slide it out!"

Is that true ? Because that would make life much easier. (where is the modem cover located ?)

Then i would simply cut that cable , and solder a new wire to the connector cable and connect it with a new BIOS battery-holder (that i have plenty around), with a new battery.

Or does it have to be the tough and hard way, by disassembling the whole CF-27 ?

    Hi all!

Is the CF-27's RTC battery rechargable (accumulator) or usual (non-rechargable)? I know that destop PCs uses non-rechargable batteries, but my pocket CF-P1 uses rechargable battery (accumulator).

I now got some cooling paste for disassembly of the CF-27. Got a small text file with a description how to do this on " how to mend it .com - oN A PANASONIC CF27 WHERE IS THE MOTHERBOARD/BIOS BATTERY? "
and i also got the Service manual (with a huge picture of all parts) . Sadly, for me, its a bit too-complicated to understand the process of disassembly. I prefer the Cf-28/CF-29 manuals with step-by-step instructions.

Anyhow, i still want to replace the RTC/CMOS battery. Does anybody know a good step-by-step instruction how to do this the fast/clean and good way ?

I searched the internet for 1.5 years now, and did not find any photograpic or detailed instruction for this. Maybe some users of this forum know the tricks....

    Thanks in advance.

Back many years ago I bought 3, CF-27 from a member named gravitar, 2 of them were password protected. Well this was way back when you could clear the password by pulling the battery. (this doesn't work anymore on the newer computers, so don't waste your time trying with anything newer). Back the point, yes you have to completely take out the motherboard. The battery is underneath and very hard to get too. Maybe to much work for what an old CF-27 is worth nowadays.

I have enough free time, to try it. I have 2 full working batteries that last 2 hours. When i am on the road and the RTC battery is dead (as it is at the moment) the batteries are going dry after a while. Anyhow, any tips (pictures or so) would be handy.

I might sound a bit fanatic, but i love to repair, make my CF-27 in full working order. So also a new RTC battery. I only hope that i will not destroy the CF-27 while replacing the RTC battery, thats also the reason why i prefer to have picture about disassembly...

Its an old slow machine, but it does it job. And its my first toughbook that i bought 2 years ago. I never sell it. Its my little baby.

    Thanks for your reply, Graybeard.

So, i replaced the RTC battery. It took 90 minutes to fix it. Not very difficult at all. The power slider was a bit stuck, but after refitting it, and putting everything together my CF-27 now has a nice new RTC battery that will last till 2022 or so. Nice, i am happy and am now sitting in the garden using my CF-27...

I tried to replace the CMOS battery of the CF-71, but also destroyed the screen-cable that goes into the motherboard. So, i cant remove the motherboard. Is there any ttrick to get the bottom of the CF-71 loose, without having to remove the upper-part and keyboard ?

    Necro-bump.

After many years of searching the internet, I still did not find the CF-71 service manual. Do any members of this forum know a website that has these manuals ?
