This seems to be a more difficult task than I originally thought. It also seems that google is not the best way to go about finding this kind of information. So I will ask here.

I'd like to buy a Panasonic Y7 in Canada. I would very much prefer to buy them new (I've already found stores that can order Demo units for me but they want me to pay in advance before seeing the unit, which I'm not willing to do). I suppose that a Y5 would also do if I could find it new. This website ( http://lnxg.ca/?Hardware:Panasonic_Toughbook_CF-Y5) suggests that there was a time in the not-too-long distant past where Best Buy even carried them. But maybe that site is a lie since I can't find any trace of Best Buy ever having them.

Also, if you've bought a Panasonic Y4/Y5/Y7/F8 in Canada, I'd be interested in your shopping experience (and of course, in knowing where you bought your laptop even if they don't sell them anymore at this point).

Moved this thread from "what should I buy" forum to here in Panasonic, I think the crowd here will be more helpful.

Thanks to the mods for moving this.

Thanks Tomcat57. I've figured that out from some of your (and other's) posts. But they don't seem to sell any Y7s anymore, or at least not online (only the F8, which still seems a bit expensive).

Maybe not online, but if you could contact a store , and have them do a store stock check
The 8 models are current now, so if you find a 7 in store you will get a deal on the old stock

You are right, they do have it in stock. Unfortunately, the stores don't ship (not such a big problem) or accept payment via phone (a much bigger problem). Ugh. Why don't their online store people and retail store people talk to each other.

This reply is probably too late but if you get this, I purchased a toughbook y7 last year and I live in Canada.

London Drugs is the only place I've really seen them at and they are down right expensive. I ended up ordering mine from Japan from Cyber-Japan_store on ebay and they shipped me the Let's note CF-Y7 (japanese name) which obviously comes with a Japanese keyboard and Japanese Vista Business. I purchased the system $800 cheaper than London Drugs and have moved on to use Ubuntu and have been extremely happy with the purchase. Unfortunately they deal in USD and back when I purchased my laptop, our dollar was soaring much higher than it is now.

I'm always surprised to see how uncommon the CF-Y series is here in Canada because this is by far my favorite laptop that I've owned and I still adore it a year later. Nothing beats a (SEMI)-rugged 3 pound 14.1 inch notebook!

Well if there is a LD store in your area, you can always look at the discontinued Toughbooks
I bought my first light cf-y2 from them on clearance, at a very good price
And the price they had on my cf-f8 was impossible to beat @ $2499 can
You really have to watch out with the Canadian dollar down now
Sometimes buying in Canada is a better deal
