I've never heard of anyone talk about these but I have come across one. How rare are they?

I'd guess it's a keyboard from a CF-28, CF-48, or CF-72 which are all light grey. All these keyboards (and CF-27 too) are interchangeable.

Like me, not really rare, just old.....er.

Thanks for the info, one more thing I have some cf 28 keyboards which are standard style and backlit (not chicklet) Is there any way I can make these work on my cf-29? I got it to work but the backlight doesn't work. This is my favourite of the keyboards and would be sweet to get working on my cf-29.

So all CF model keyboards are interchangeable, including CF 30 which i hope to find cheap and get soon? Obviously not the CF 18 & 19
-
No ...CF 50 an CF 51 will not swap with the others.
-
Not quite. The fully rugged full size, at least since the CF-27 are all the same foot print, and with a few exceptions will all fit and function (some exceptions as far as functional backlight). It is a long story and I'm not up to all of it this morning. I don't know about any other models, but, from general forum browsing, I'm pretty sure that these keyboards will not fit all of the full size units. Best to post the exact model you want to transplant from and to and wait for some one who has tried it to chime in. Someone has tried it!

There are 2 kinds of backlit keyboards for C-28: rubber and chicklet. Chicklet have the same key shape and feel as a standard keyboard, but are black keys with green backlight. Rubber keys are fully sealed, white backlight, and take more finger strength to type on.
Are you asking if the chicklet (green backlit) keyboard will work on a CF-29? Short answer is No. But there is a mod kit (so-called Texas board and special cables) for that keyboard for installing on a CF-28 that someone with a lot of time & interest could try grafting into a CF-29.
If you have the keyboard with hard keys, non-rubber, with white backlights, that is actually made for a CF-29/30. It can be also fitted into a CF-28 with the right parts but that's very rare. But if that's your situation, swapping it to a CF-29 is easy. -
29 and 51 are exact same size but.....that's where it ends. Tried that when I got the emissive for my 29 and wanted to replace my damaged 51 keyboard with he standard 29. The ribbons aren't the same. I took pics but an iPhone update completely robbed me of those pics as well as a 100 others.

A CF 50 keyboard will swap directly for a CF 51 keyboard.

Yeah I ended up finding another 51 board then sold the unit... :,( I didn't want the tan "smokers package" keyboard.
