I've never heard of anyone talk about these but I have come across one. How rare are they?

I'd guess it's a keyboard from a CF-28, CF-48, or CF-72 which are all light grey. All these keyboards (and CF-27 too) are interchangeable.

Like me, not really rare, just old.....er.

Thanks for the info, one more thing I have some cf 28 keyboards which are standard style and backlit (not chicklet) Is there any way I can make these work on my cf-29? I got it to work but the backlight doesn't work. This is my favourite of the keyboards and would be sweet to get working on my cf-29.

Are you asking if the chicklet (green backlit) keyboard will work on a CF-29? Short answer is No. But there is a mod kit (so-called Texas board and special cables) for that keyboard for installing on a CF-28 that someone with a lot of time & interest could try grafting into a CF-29.
If you have the keyboard with hard keys, non-rubber, with white backlights, that is actually made for a CF-29/30. It can be also fitted into a CF-28 with the right parts but that's very rare. But if that's your situation, swapping it to a CF-29 is easy. -
29 and 51 are exact same size but.....that's where it ends. Tried that when I got the emissive for my 29 and wanted to replace my damaged 51 keyboard with he standard 29. The ribbons aren't the same. I took pics but an iPhone update completely robbed me of those pics as well as a 100 others.

Yeah I ended up finding another 51 board then sold the unit... :,( I didn't want the tan "smokers package" keyboard.
