I was curious as too the one's that use the Intel Proset. I just don't seem to have good luck with it for some reason. If it is that much better I guess I wll figure out why I struggle with it so much. The last time I had it loaded I did some tests between the 2 in which the MS beat it everytime with speeds.

Good question I am now wondering if I should be using the Atheros Client utility rather than letting windows handle my wireless connection?

I might have to try it again with the latest driver's. Has anybody ever digged deep into the Proset? There is alot of stuff in there. Half of it makes my eyes spin  Like that's hard to do!

I'm using proset on my CF-52 and it is decidedly better at keeping a higher connectivity rate than M$'s built in manager. I can't say as I know much about all the features, I have had no need to do anything with them.

With the high power engenius cards, I'd recommend it. The atheros utility lets you adjust the max output power for the card.

generally there is no problem on intel/proset. The problem there is when windoze xp start upgrading or I'll say patches to it up to SP3. It affect the outdated intel/proset utility.

Sample, who among you has a panasonic cf-29 1.3ghz model with intel/proset utility(original utility without driver update) running and upgraded to whatever service pack. I can assure you that those unit from time to time will give "BSOD"

Teo is right.... The problems that my customers experienced was on the 1.3GHz model... But they do also have an updated ProSet utility for some of the cards. (At least the ABG card they do.)

I was able to upgrade the driver on my 1.3GHz 29 to the latest version, but I had to do it after installing SP3, but before installing any post-sp3 fixes. Otherwise, I couldn't get wifi to work at all. The card would see networks, but it couldn't connect, and didn't show up with the ipconfig tool.

    so:
    1. install from restore disk, which is SP1
    2. install SP3
    3. Install new proset/driver
    4. run software update to update XP

I do try and keep up with updates from Intel for this software. Every update I've ever installed has at least not hurt and usually helped. I refuse to install Vista though, all my experience is with XP Pro. Once the first service pack for Win7 has been out a while I'll give that a shot, but until then I'll stick with XP Pro.
