I have a cf29 mk1, with intel proset 7.1, which has trouble picking up wifi that my wife's Macbook (relatively new) can pick up with no problem. Please help me end the humiliation. BTW: I'd rather improve my cf29 than cripple the Macbook. Thanks.

    Use windows, not proset
The 2100b cards are not as good as what the mk-2 used 2200bg

If we can assume that switching from the 2100B to the 2200BG will make a big difference, you might just want to go buy one. I'm seeing 2200BG cards on eBay for about $13.00 shipped (in the US).

Tomcat--thanks; switching to Windows helped a lot; and thanks for the heads up on the 2200 card Dinnerout. Is replacing the card a pretty simple operation? I'm new to toughbooks, though I've added memory, drives, etc. to desktops. Thanks.

    Wifi card replacement instructions,,
    TAKE OUT THE BATTERY
Remove the 4 small screws on the memory door, remove memory.
Remove all the 16 screws holding the back on.
If you have any problems getting the screws out,,, STOP!!! DON'T LET THE SCREW DRIVER SLIP AND STRIP THE SCREW HEADS,,,,,, get a good set of precision screw drivers and continue.
Remove the bottom panel being careful to unplug the speaker wires
Unplug the antenna cables from the wireless card and remove card.
Install the new card making sure that it goes all the way into the socket, and snap the 2 antenna cables onto the card.
Push the outsides of the 2 spots of "thermal putty" inward to make the putty thicker in the middle so that when the bottom is installed the putty flattens out to make the heat is transfer correctly,,,,, don't forget to plug in all the speaker wires,,,,
Put the screws back in, then the memory and door.
Install battery, power up and install the new wireless drivers.
Enjoy the improved features of your new card...

    Bob

Just for info, both my CF-29s have Intel 2915 ABG cards, not 2200s (BG)

These are only about $10 - $15 on ebay. Searching for the card model number I gave in that other thread should ensure the correct size version.

If you're going to pull it apart to swap cards I would invest in a little better one than the 2200. They arent all that expensive and you're doing the same amount of work

Thanks Stifnecked... I was going to suggest the same thing!

FYI... The CF-29 MK1s had B cards... The MK2,3 (and I think) 4 had B/G cards... Then the MK5&6 had A/B/G cards... At least on the ones I have seen...

Just to be clear before I pull the trigger: the card that Stiffnecked pointed me to will fit my 29 mk 1, right? Thanks.

Wow, that's the best price I've yet seen for this card. Around $48.00 shipped. I couldn't resist, so I went ahead and bought one.

One reservation: I just wish they didn't make you create an account with them just to purchase something. They accept PayPal, which is good, but it's annoying that you have to create an account regardless. Several eBay sellers do this, and it makes me unhappy. Oh well... my $0.02 on the matter.

Just to clarify, do you need to also purchase a external antenna to go with this card? If so, which is the one everybody is using.
    Thanks
