Just for reference, I was digging around on Netgate today finding some drivers and the ALFA AWPCI085H: 802.11a/b/g 1000mW miniPCI Card came up (the site won't let me post the URL because of my post count).

Has anyone cared to try it yet? I would like to know how much of an improvement it is over the 600mW cards a lot of us are using.

Never heard of it. I found it on the site it looks nice.

I was using a 600mw card and it was way stronger than the stock card.

I really don't think that the reception would really be that much better than the 600mW card... Just my .02

EDIT - I'm with Tomcat... (Good eye BTW...) would worry about the power consumption. YIKES!

With this card, u can send a huge signal and u would be receipt by stations far away, but if they also hav'nt an powerfull transmitter, u can't hear this far away station. Their signal is to weak. And aditionally the social component: If u are using this card with this huge power, ur neighbourghs can't use their wifi-stations; u are too loud and ur signal is in the closer zone around ur antenna not only on an channel. The advantage is: U make it easier to hack ur signal for anybody, coz anybody can hear u..... :) The best way is to invest in a good antenna and an sensitive chip to maximize the signal.
