Well, I currently have a CF-27 with a PCMCIA wifi card. Of course, that means that the bay cover has to flop open 99% of the time. Me no likey.

I have heard mention of 'short pcmcia wifi' cards, but I have yet to see one on ebay or anywhere else other than here. Where can I find one of these mythical creatures? I wouldn't mind having to open the bay to use it.

Option 2 is internal wifi setup with an antenna in the screen housing. That might be a bit pricey and complicated for a simple country boy like me. Of course, I might consider that at some point.

Rick.... I don't have experience with the CF-27 but I would assume that there are a lot of options as there are for all the other Toughbooks.

Are you sure you weren't reading about the short BT cards? I am sure that you could either go with an internal mini-pci card and route an internal antenna to a spot close to the outside frame where there is only plastic to go through... This along with a Bulkhead SMA jack is a good option. You could also find a USB wifi set-up and then wire it internally... Then there is the PCMCIA option... You could always remove the part that sticks out and wire the antenna to somewhere else. That is how a lot of people did it on the CF-M34....

    Just a few thoughts...

There is a shorter cisco 350 wifi card but you need to use an external antenna as it is not built in. I do not know how big the PCMCIA slot is on the cf-27 but you might be able to open up the laptop and run the antenna inside somewhere and be able to close the door.

If you get 90 degree connectors and run some internal antennas somewhere in the toughbook you might be able to do an internal setup.

We use these cards in our work laptops and the antenna is on the LCD screen. It might be an option you could work out.
