The title says it all... Er... Asks it all. Will the motherboard out of a CF-29 1.6Ghz laptop fit into and work in a CF-29 1.3Ghz laptop case?

I need to know a yes or no and not a, "Well... It should!"

    Calling TBTech29!

I have a few bad 1.3 units and see a 1.6 mobo on ebay... I thought I might try for it.

    Thanks,

    Rick

You're talking about the CPU, right? I don't know much about toughbooks, but I would assume they use the same motherboard on identical laptops. What processors are the 1.6 and 1.3 GHz?

I do not think it will work due to the fact that the 1.6ghz MB has 2 USB ports and the 1.3ghz have only 1 usb and a mouse port. The motherboard might bolt in but the hole in the back for the usb would not be there and might cause the mb to sit in there wrong.

Even you ignored the rear USB port thing, yes the mobo will fit but some of the screw holes will be in the wrong place. As well, the CPU and north bridge chips are in SLIGHTLY different places so the heat pipe thermal paste might need to move as well.

I know beecause I just opened up a 1.2 to take the WWAN out to put into my 1.6.

Toughbook, you must already know that it won’t work.
The reason I say that. is the auction still has 1 day 18hrs left on it.

If you say anything here in the forum about toughbook’s and parts, that have not been auctioned off already you will have a lot of competing bids to deal with.
We will even go so far as contacting the seller for a buy it now offer.
Just to get what we want
    Before the other guy. :)

I found a backlit keyboard a couple of days ago for auction.
I made a best offer on it, and the seller did not respond.
His bin price was good at $125
There was little interest in it until I linked a shortcut to it here in a tread
About 3 min later someone made an offer
And within an hour someone made a buy it now.

This toughbook modding is like a addiction.
So you can’t blame us for biding things up.

Were addicted just like you! :)

I figured that it probably wouldn't fit. I noticed that the CPU was in a different area... Just didn't know if someone had modded one to fit.

Yup... I found out the hard way about posting here. I did that with the old Hitachi 100GB, 7200rpm hard drives. I posted that they were in stock at Newegg (finally).... I bought 5 of them and the rest were sold out in 10 minutes! Nothing like the power of the Internet!

no they will not, same screw pattern yes but the cpu dies and other stuff are not in the same spot and as mentioned the rear usb port is not there on the mark 1/2.

I know exactly what you are saying after they pop up on here they are gone very quickly.

I found a cf-29 emmisive backlit keyboard in perfect shape for $69.95 & free shipping and man I hit BIN on that thing and it had only been on ebay for 20mins.

I am glad no one found it before i did :D

    Alex,
The seller tells me he was going to pull it, he bought another CF-30, went to do so and found it was sold. Never post a link to an auction for something you think you might want to buy. If I don't like it, I'll put it up here and you guys can fight over it.

I see that you bought it.
    Thats a good deal.

He didn’t respond to my fair offer, so I didn’t care really.

I shouldn’t help him by posting a link , but I thought one of the regulars here could use it.

I think for a while I will post links for stuff I already have purchased.

Included but not shown in the picture was 2 extra ledco dc-dc adapters and a cf-29 ledco docking station.

Alex, once you get it, can you take a picture of the rear connectors on the display and keyboard? Are they regular VGA/USB/PS2.. as in.. you can use just the display and keyboard on another computer?

    Phil,
I have one and they use a VGA video cable from the host to the display, plus a ps2 type cable which goes from the host to the keyboard and another called a function cable, also ps2 type which goes from the keyboard to the display. I can take some pictures later. Send me a PM if you want a PDF of the manual.
Alex, I assume then that the Break Out Box in the picture was for the LEDco dock?

    Phil,

Cap got most of the info you asked for
Me thinks he has the same unit :)

The display has a 15.6v power input which is the standard, new toughbook style plug
    Standard vga input
    Line-in for the built-in speakers
A 9 pin serial plug for the touchsreen
And a 8 pin din style plug for the Fn keys

The keyboard uses a 6 pin standard din plug, which came with an adapter to convert to usb if needed
It has the corresponding 8 pin din plug for the Fn keys

The ledco cf-29 docking station is hard wired in to the breakout box as shown

This can be used as a package, or the keyboard and screen can be used with any laptop or computer, but is usually used with some form of docking station as you will need the extra com port as 1 com port is used for the touchscreen

The cf-vdl02 touch screen display has 1200 nits brightness
The keyboard has the standard backlit rubber keyboard that we toughbook Geeks either love or hate.

    Cap,

Yes your right on the breakout box.

I’m thinking that maybe one day I will get organized

I’m thinking That maybe I should start a new thread when needed

    Instead of hijacking everyone else’s

This anarchy seems to work here for the regulars, as we go through all the new posts anyway.

But it must be confusing for newbie’s trying to figure out how our board works

And darn it I get confused sometimes, when I try to go back and try to find a post :) :)
