Reason I ask is someone here that used a CF-28 rubber Keyboard said that there was a 1/16th of an inch opening on the side of there CF-29. That made me wonder if a CF-29 would be 1/16th of inch too big?

If so this would mean I COULDNT swap my cf-29 keyboard into my CF-28.

    Thanks.

P.S. MY cf-28 DOES have the 3 ports for the keyboard so the issue for me is SIZE of the keyboard itself.

I believe keyboards for the 27,28 and 29 are compatible, or so everyone around here keeps saying.

I got a 27/28 rubber keyboard off ebay and it did work on my 29.

Yes I know, but I BELIEVE you said there was a slight 1/16" gap on the one side of the keyboard/ If that is the case, then Adding a CF-29 keyboard would be 1/16" wider than the CF-28. I was planning on saping keyboard between my 2 systems but I am not sure it its possible.

I believe it will still work LT, but hey, give it a shot and come back and let us know if you were able to do it. I do see your point, and I agree with it, but I don't recall as anyone actually trying to go backwards with a keyboard so let us know what you find out.

    Thanks,

Ok I did it, the Rubber Keyboard with 2 cables DOES work in a CF-29..... BUT.... While it Glows you CANNOT adjust the Brightness or turn it off. Atleast it didnt work for me.

On the CF-29 3 cable to a CF-28, again it Worked..... BUT the Backlit option didnt work at all even though I connected the 3rd cable to the port that is on my Late model CF-28.

On both of them all the FN functions worked except the Brightness control.

Hope this helps? The size of the Keyboards Measured the Same so there is no size difference.

The standard 29 keyboard works great in the 28. The three tabbed illuminated 29 keyboard will work in the 28 if you have the right keyboard pc board. They are rare.

I haven't tried the rubber keyboard from the 28 in the 29 yet... maybe later today or tomorrow.

It works just if its 2 cable it doesnt seem to allow you to adjust the brightness.

As for the 29 keyboard in the 28 funny thing is my CF-28 has 3 ports for the keyboard and yet it doesnt light at all. :-(

The 3rd tab on the CF-28 is made for illuminated keyboards. It must be outfitted with the sensor (below the F4 key) and the keyboard illumination pc board (Under the bottom cover with 4 screws.) If you don't have the sensor and the pcb... Then the only illuminated keyboard that will work is the rubber one... Not the other two 3 cabled keyboards that fit in the CF-28.

Yes I have that installed and yet the Brightness is not adjustable. Are you sure you only have 2 cables? Also maybe this is only a problem for the Newer 1.4-1.6 models?

ALL FN keys work fine except brightness control, maybe there is something wrong with our keyboards? lol Where did you get yours? I bought mine for $50 from the same place as most here did.

it will fit perfectly i have an cf-29 with two key lost
and replace it with a cf-28 in good condition and it work find

    my opinion is
    1- the conts:
if they are so tough why they easily damage parts like:
    battery
    keyboard
    cdroms
    floppy drives
    harddrives
    etc....

it isnt fair that a toughbook that should be TOUGH
happens to easily damage all these parts
and by the way they are to expensive to change

    2- the pros:
    the hinges are excelent
    and also the touchscreen
    processor
    board etc...
    wifi
    had no problem with that

anything else find me in the toughbook lovers seccion
