Hmm, my CF-28, which has worked flawlessly for almost 2 years, failed to boot this afternoon. I last used it a week ago, and let it fall asleep while on the charger. I have done this many times. I hit the start lever, and waited for the logon screen. Nothing, but the HDD indicator light was flashing like something was going on. The screen was still dark, however. I waited a few minutes, still nothing. I pressed, and held down the start lever, to do a shutdown. Hit the start lever again, Panasonic welcome screen comes up, followed by the white bar that indicates Windows is starting, then the white Win2k screen with the blue progress bar at the bottom. Here, the progress bar stops at about the halfway point, and a few moments later, a blue screen comes up that informs me: STOP! BOOT DEVICE INACCESSABLE. If you are seeing this stop screen for the first time, reboot the computer. If you have already done so, ad nauseum.......I did pull the bottom panel, and remove/reseat the HDD carrier. I also verified that the HDD is running, and not making any weird noises. Anyone with ideas?

Sounds like a bad hard drive
If you have any add on ram ,you can take it out and try to boot

Nope, this one is as it was from the factory, one 256 chip. You told me what I suspected, however, there was no warning of any impending doom. I still have the 30gig Toshiba drive that was original to this Toughbook, and that means it's 7 years young........

    Hi Mbstartech,

I found sometimes win 2k and xp. the way I fixed it was to use a xp cd to boot to the where you can press R for the recover consal (Command Line

Press R and follow on screen to you get to c:>

and type in chkdsk /p and let it run when it ends type in exit.

Cross your fingers and hope it will boot to win2k.

Chkdsk should just finnish and c:> with any error ie disk inacessable

Yes, thanks, it worked! I am in the process of copying everything important off the disk, and I will order a new drive. Whew, saved by the bell......
