Well gents, first posting, first toughbook. I was recently issued a nice CF-30k3PAX2M laptop from work. First of all, I love this thing. Its a beast. Who needs to carry a concealed weapon when you haul this behemoth around lol.
Well today, my Western Digital Black 750g 7400RPM sata III drive came in, as did my copy of Windows 7 64 bit. This thing loves it! Im working on it now, and it is ten times smoother than the old XP Pro install that came on it when I got it. But here is my one question. I dont believe I have GPS, and I really dont think I have a touchscreen (at least they never showed in XP)
Windows found all the drivers with exception of two, that I cant figure out. The laptop works great, audio, video, DVD combo drive, and all the little fancy gadgets this boy has, but does anyone have any idea what the two unknown drivers could be?
I could take the time, disasemble the drive caddy again, drop in the XP drive, and check those drivers, but after the amount time it took me to safetly install this drive without damaging anything, I figured I would try here first.
    Thanks gents!

Your unknown devices will be: 1.0 hotkey driver and the other either the tpm(infenion) ot etm.

You've got a base model non-touch but WWAN ready. You only need a modem card(pci-e) like gobi 2000, sierra wireless, novatel and etc. Depends to wht you want. i recomend gobi 2000 so that you can use that to any network either GSM or CDMA.

Hmm. gobi 2000 huh. Ive got a Gobi 1000 mini PCI-e card from verizon in my netbook. Too bad its not the 2k model lol

As far as those two missing drivers, do I really need them? Or can I safely ignore them?

When you put W7 on your 30 did you use the 30 Restore disk or just a copy (OEM or Retail) Does any of your Fn keys work? Myself I would of went with W7 32 bit. There is others that tried 64 bit but had problems with it and went back to 32bit. Is there a reason you want or need 64 bit ? I run 32 bit on my 30MK1 and it runs great.

Here is a few drivers and programs my guess you do not have installed

(Since there were no 64bit drivers I used the Windows 7 32bit at panasonic's download site)
    Panasonic Misc driver
    Hotkey driver
    Hotkey Appendix application
    Hotkey setting application
    Battery Recalibration application
    Power Saving Utility
    SD Secure DLL Driver
    PC Information Viewer Application
    Panasonic Notification Utility

There is others you may have to download, you just have to check. When I installed W7 I had to install theses after W7 was up and running.

The thing is it might take some work because it list no drivers for your model (K MK3) for W7 64bit. There is drivers for the W7 32bit.

It seems like all my fn keys work. the Fn F7, 9 and 10 I have no idea what they do, but every other one works as expected. The battery still gets 7 hours of life of the standard, so its not burning any more juice than it did before. The reason I went with 64 bit vice 32 bit is this, Ive done comparisons on my other systems, fresh 7 installs, exact same system. Ive noticed the 64 version just always seems a bit smoother when your working on things. it may be my imagination, but my home laptop (a gateway P7811-FX series gaming notebook, which is actually my home media center/wifes home system) ran signifigantly faster with 64 than 32. plus I got the 64 bit version for free, brand new in the box.

I think you need to run the Battery Recalibration application, even Rob's new CF-31 don't get that. When was the last time you calibrated the battery ? To get 7 hours on a 30. I have a new battery and I run SSD which gives me 4 hours ( BatteryBar)

1st off, welcome to the board :)

The Fn keys you are wondering about:
    Fn7-Sleep
    Fn9-Battery Percentage Level
    Fn-10 Hibernate

Toughnails; If you are only getting 4 hours, with using a SSD, you need to look into something being wrong. I easily get a minimum of 5.5 to 6 hours on my MK3, and my MK2 is even better. If I put in my 2nd battery in my MK2 I can nail 10 hours every day. I use BatteryBar myself which is a great little app. I would run the power_cfg report and see if it provides you some help.

At work but will check later . I did a battery cal before I went to work so it should be done by now. When I am on battery I still have the screen on full which is stupid I suppose... I know by reducing it I could get a good extra hour out of it.

Well I just checked my 2 batteries.

    1 : 8.2 % Battery wear, Full lifetime @ 3.45 hours
    2 : 3.2 % Battery wear, Full lifetime @ 8.41 hours

I use my 30 at the cottage and I do know that I can watch 2 full length movies on battery 1 with about 20% left.

You could always go into the BIOS and set it at "Normal Brighteness" and see if that helps. I have found that unless I am using it in direct sunlight the normal brightness is suffice.

I ran the battery calibration last night, Ive been running off battery power now, and its still showing 7.5 hours available. I ran it literally all day yesterday before the calibration on battery (better part of 7 hours) and still had a half hour of life left.
