Has anyone else downloaded and installed the Svc Pk 3 update from Microsoft? Has anyone else noticed that the laptops slow down after the install?

I just need to make sure if it is me or someone/anyone else notices a slowdown on their Toughbooks. I have seen a very noticeable slowdown in the entire system after installing their latest "Fixes"... I have also noticed that Svc Pack 3 grants "server" status to several program that, in my opinion, shouldn't have them. (6 programs if I recall!) I'm glad I run ZoneAlarm firewall to tell me these things. I couldn't imagine what would happen without this firewall.

So... Anyone else notice a slowdown?

Please let's not get into a devolving discussion about how bad Microsoft sucks... I am particularly interested in how this affects Panasonic Toughbooks. Not Dell, Asus, Gateway... blah, blah, blah laptops or desktops.

I'd like to hear from the Toughbook crowd on this one.

    Thanks!

I have that on my CF28, and it runs fine to me. But then again I think that the CF28 runs slowly to begin when I seat it next to my 07 dual core toshiba lapy.

Now that you mention it; maybe. If there is a slow down, it's not something that is consistent.

I run spybot, adaware, and grisoft religiously.

I'm not a real high tech redneck, so maybe I just haven't noticed

I'm going to hold off until after I make it out west. I don't want a corrupted laptop before I go.

I only noticed a slight slowdown when opening up Excel/Word. Other than that, its pretty much the same as before. I do believe the slight increase in security might be a contributing factor, just a wild guess.

I'm running SP3 on a CF-30. It does seem to boot a little slower than it did before the "upgrade", I'm thinking about reloading a fresh install of XP Pro

I just put SP3 on a 600 which seemed to run fine and the speed didn't seem to change. Then I put it on my 28 1GHz and several times since I have done it, it has gone to the Blue Screen of Death and restarted saying that it recovered from a serious error. I'm thinking of a clean XP install and SP2. I haven't noticed any benefit from it over SP2. Spark

I find mine runs if anything a little bit faster. However I have just done a clean install so SP3 was the 2nd update done on Windows update after SP2.

I think that maybe done this way all the previous fixes are never downloaded on the computer as they are incorporated in the Service Pack. I think that the problem with the way the hotfixes are installed is that even when a Service Pack is loaded they still stay resident on the machine and "live". Could be wrong though on this.

Also installing SP3 made my Office 2007 run a bit better but again could be because it is a clean install.

    Harvey,

Mine were also clean installs. However, after playing around with them a bit more, they don't seem to be as slow. Maybe I've just gotten used to them.

Just speeded mine up even more. Just got rid of Norton Internet Security and gone to Windows Live One Care. It's like night and day. From what I have heard, One Care is not quite so secure as Norton, however I am always careful and it's resource usage is almost nothing compared to Norton. Also has a speed up utility which seems to work well.

    Cheers
    Andy
