Have a cf19 and really want to change it to w10. Currently win 7.
I was thinking of taking out the hdd with the win 7 out and then pop in a new ssd and install win 10 on it.
My theory is if something goes wrong, I can just put the hdd with win 7 back in. But the question is will all my front buttons work. Will the digitizer touch screen work? Will my wwan mc7700 Att card work?
Thanks

probably not unless you can find official Panasonic win10 drivers for a mk4.
later mk drivers MAY work but it will be tril and error to find working button driver.Soninihon, Wyoming88! and toughasnails like this. -
I bet everything will work with win7 drivers.

window 7 was cool for that generation. but they are stopping the updates on win 7. plus I got use to win 10.
there are apps and programs more useful on win 10 with the Toughbook capabilities.
im just going to pull the plug and buy a ssd and fresh install win 10 on it. if something goes wrong, I got my hdd with win 7 on it ill just pop back in.toughasnails likes this. -

With a Lot of reading and driver installation from Panasonic you might get lucky getting everything to work properly...
Or you could contact Bob Johnson Computers....
They sound like they’ve fully embraced the brave new world of win10
Please report back after you get some results

I was able to get windows 10 to work. I used the factory restore disk to do a fresh install, then upgrade to windows 10.
Believe I then used the mk8 drivers driver package to update drivers that didnt work.Shawn likes this. -
It's a very very dangerous idea. That wild and ungovernable OS Windows 10... Avoid it at all costs. I've installed it myself once. I was able to get it to work... But... Look at my face...

The latest update of Windows 10 is very broken. Due to family and work requirements it is installed on most of the machines at home and all (except for a few Macs and Windows 7 machines) at work (Government department). Only 2 machines at home are not broken in one way or another and I suspect my desktop, which duel boots with Debian Sid that is so stable its not funny, will break today. Windows 10 will not go on anymore of my personal machines until I see some level of stability come back on the units it is currently on. I need to get myself a 120 GB M2 sata and a 2 TB hdd for my daily driver so I can install Debian Sid on it to bypass the madness that is Windows 10.

Maybe Privacy Badger, No Script, and Ghostery, are stopping it from appearing. -

I just recently installed Windows 10 on CF-19 Mk4 and there are no problems whatsoever - all devices, video, buttons and even Gobi2000 WWAN GPS card work with no issues.

Help. I'm having the exact opposite problem. I can't get 10 to install on my mk4. I keep getting an Intel Dynamic Power driver error and the install aborts. I've tried uninstalling the driver and it reappears and I've tried 3 different generations of Win 10 Iso's.. I'm running a factory Win 7 install that appears to be fully updated..
Any ideas
Thanks, Jim -
hope this help.toughasnails likes this. -
Well I installed the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF).driver as reccomended, it shows in the Device manager even though the Intel installer stated that not all the drivers were installed. So I broke out the Win 10 USB and fired up setup and lo and behold it reported that it couls not install as Intel dynamic power performance management driver needed to be manually uninstalled whick I already had done and it no longer appears in either device manager or programs and features….
HELP…………

It's a "great feature" of Windows. You have to search for dppm driver files on your disk. In my case it was just an installer in downloads, really
)
And use a registry cleaner.Shawn and toughasnails like this. -
OK, I notice that there are some global install xml files with intel drivers in them, Are you saying that I need to delete them even though they don't seem to be active....I did clean the register and also manually searched it for dppm files and deleted all references to them,
Jim -
delete intel dppm files only, not all intel files
and try o upgrade after every deletion -
Still working on it.. Searching all the files. did try a fresh install a it liked it, but I stopped it before it updated as I really would like to get around reloading all my installed progrs..
-
if I remember correctly, uninstall Intel Dynamic Power Perf driver (which I believe you already did). This driver may also be called ETM, or PCI Data Acquisition & Signal Processing Controller. Then go to "Windows" then "System32" folder then "drivers" folder and rename anything with "etm" in it. The uninstaller does not remove these "etm" entries. I don't think you have to reboot, but can't remember for sure. Then try upgrade to Win10 process again.
-
Well. I finally got partial success, I ended up having to reformat the drive as Win 10 sstateds that it didn't like the factory reinstall partition. Installed 1903 afterwards, however it didn't install any Panasonic drivers. I guess I'm going to download the Mk 5 6 7 version and try to install them this evening...
Thanks for all the help so far... Funny thing Win 10 had no problem with the restore partition on my HO desktop....
Jim -
Also as far a Panasonic MISC driver, panasonic hotkey, etc. I have had some luck in the past using those drivers from different models.
-
Oh well, it got worse, it doesn't have the product key from Win 7 as I had to format the drive...So now it won't activate Microsoft wants me to buy a copy of Win 10 Pro, the people on the phone were no help what so ever... I guess I'll need to buy a restore disk from Heartland and start all over....
-
Use the win7 key from your laptop. Sticker on bottom.
If you don't have it and can't get it somewhere- restore disk will not help.
-
Very good, had to install a second copy of win 10 over the top of the first one.... Tomorrow DRIVERS!!!!!!!!!
Thank you........ -
Everything appears to be fine except for the Panasonic brightness controls, Win 10 is overriding them...
-
The brightness function keys turn the brightness up and down, but the settings in the PC Settings instantly override them and return it to the preset level, The PC Settings will change the brightness level.. I used the updated Win 7 64 MK4 drivers from the Panasonic website.

Thanks, Jim.
Check if you have Hotkey Appendix installed.

I have 2 CF-19 caddies, and I had one with W7 and W10 to test. I have Mk 6, so it may not apply to Mk 4. By default, W10 is clunky and messy to work with, but all of the Mk 6 drivers intended for W7 works.
This includes all buttons and ports.
Windows 10 won me over eventually with the built-in "MAPs" function and the ability to make the OEM gps to work with it at relative ease. This was not so trivial for W7. -
Ok, Here's where I am... I removed the hotkey appendix, no more touchscreen so I reinstalled the appendix and got the touchscreen back. Not very accurate as far as touch goes, but that's an issue for another time. As a workaround I programmed a desktop shortcut to open the windows settings for dimming and brightening the display..
Here's an update on all my old machines..
CF-T8 win10 64 brightness works
CF-30 Mk1 win10 32 brightness works
CF-30 Mk3 win10 64 brightness doesn't work
CF-19 Mk4 win10 64 brightness doesn't work
CF-19 Mk7 win10 64 brightness works
Someplace around here I also have a CF-W4 that my wife bought on e-bay that had Win 10 when she got it, I know that's a 32 machine and I believe it's brightness works It's just that she got a W8 and a CF-C2 to replace it and it's buried somewhere...
I'm going to try the Mk6 driver for the appendix and see what happens. Based on the above it appears that a Win10 32 might be the best match for older toughbooks .
Thanks to all of you for the good advice so far....Last edited: Jun 6, 2020 -
Looking at the Mk6 drivers, they don't seem to include a hotkey appendix.. I guess this is going to be as good as it gets..
-
Windows 10 still a bit of a mixed bag then?
-
I'm sure touchscreen doesn't need hotkey appendix to function. -

I always disable sleep/hibernation on every machine I own.
They always seem to give issues on wake up.
I set the screen to turn off after 3 minutes. It is the main power hog. SSD's and idling motherboards don't use enough power to worry about.toughasnails and UNCNDL1 like this. -
Can't live without sleep
Had no problems with sleep with newer machines and OS'es. I never shutdown my laptops
-
Maybe I have PTSD from previous Windows versions.
PTSD = post traumatic stress disorder.
-
Windows 10 will automatically disable hibernation (not sleep) if it detects an SSD. (It has long been recommended to do that on SSDs.) If the only device having trouble coming back from sleep is the WiFi card, another thing to try is going into Device Manager, pull up properties for WiFi card, and go to the Power Management tab and uncheck the box beside "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power".
Window 10 on CF-19 MK4?
