I just got done installing Windows 10 Eval Copy Build 9841 and all is ok so far. I performed an upgrade from Windows 7 64 and so far everything works including the hotkeys. I do not know if all drivers will install without errors when performing a clean install of Windows 10. If anyone wants to play around with it here is a direct link to the .ISO's. I am not sure of the need to join this program https://insider.windows.com/ maybe it's for some who do not have Windows already installed.

Let us all know how your testing of it goes, I am sure you have more models of Toughbooks to test it on.

Welcome after our victory
Will try Win10 too, but my Win8 was bought for USD 40 so I will try Win10 on another laptop -
I have unlimited as well. But what is your speed BaRRmaley?
I have 80M/18M
Thanks!ADOR likes this. -
In for waiting on evaluation.
Seems to me that MS has done this for the past several OS releases.
Windows XP - Pretty good
Vista - windows XP with a different face... Trying to be something it is not. - Fail
Windows 7 - Awesome
Windows 8 - Windows 7 that is similar to Vista as it is not its own true OS -
Usually it works at ~90M/10M (right now 91/10). Sometimes upload is 20-30M, but I don't need fast upload speeds.
Windows 7 looks old when I sometimes have to use it after I'm used to Win8

Maybe this weekend I will try it on a CF19 and a CF30... -
And still use it on many PCs without any problems. It's fast and simple.
And Win7 seems very old now.
Regarding desktop use, Win8 has some significant improvements over Win7. New keyboard shortcuts are magic, large password requests is a must. It's faster etc.
I'm using kb shortcuts really often. Yes, on desktop there is no way to swipe from corners, only mouse. But those 95% of users don't need those menus at all)
And tiles are very beautiful on desktops, including 27" monitors
So, XP or Win8. Or let's try Win10)

I don't have the bandwidth to download it but when I manage to get a copy I have a 19 & 30 both mk2 I will try it on.
Maybe even a C1.... -
I think C1 will be most interesting to try.
-
I will download the iso tonight, burn it to disc and have it in the mail, ExpressPost, on Monday. -

i run "classic shell" on W8.1 and now W10 ... brings back the start button/menu and some other things .
oh yeah ... winamp 5.6.6.xxxx runs on W10 .
avast antivirus does not install .jimrx7 likes this. -
Why do you want to install Avast?
Isn't there Security essentials in Win10?jimrx7 likes this. -
weeelll ... microsoft security essentials is not what i would call a "good" AV .
to the best of my knowledge , the history of it is :
a few years ago it was known by another name and was developed by another company
microsoft *bought* the company and it's AV product(s)
microsoft re-branded and repackaged said AV and did some development work on it .
for some time microsoft directly supported , de-bugged , re-wrote code , provided definition updates and engine/compatibility patches
a while back (almost 1.5 years or so as memory serves me) microsoft "farmed out" basically all the technical support and software updating , (etc) to a third party
essentially microsoft is treating the program and issue like a red-headed step-child .
the program is not as "good" as many other programs ... this is shown by independent testing done by several companies that put AV and AM programs to the test .
on those lists , MSE comes up pretty far down in the ranks .
there are those microsoft "MVP" individuals that basically say "don't use MSE" .
normally , i use ESET "smart security 7" ... this program is "paid for" and has saved my bacon many , many times .
in the comps i fix for others i install avast (free) if the owner does not have a *real* AV (there are a lot of crap ones out there) .
in short , if you totally trust MSE ... i strongly suggest that you take a good hard look at the truths and re-think your thinking .Shawn likes this. -
Many PC's, only MSE since it's appeared, no problems.
I don't even know where people find viruses now)
And yes, I've installed Avast too, before MSE and have to install it after April 8, when Microsoft has finished XP support. But it's a necessary measure
P.S. I'm not a Microsoft agent and use Chrome, not IE))

Loaded Win10 on a CF30 mk2.
Upgraded from a clean Win7 install. Win7 was loaded using an official recovery disk for a CF30. Mk
You'll want this link to avoid using a Microsoft account.

The CF30 Mk2 has 2gb ram..
Win10 runs okay on it. It took me a little while to find the control panel. I was starting to think that PC Settings was the simplified replacement. Control panel is still there. One exclamation mark in device manager for Video controller. I did not investigate it today.
I'm going to pull a 2gb stick from something else and bump this up to 3Gb. I'll load up some basic software and use this at work for a while.
I wonder if there is an expiration date on the evaluation copy? -
i am going to try to turn off the "automatic updates" (i may have found out how to do this) .
i don't like most of the automatic update stuff for programs .
i like to know when something is happening and windows does have a habit of putting out bad patches from time to time . -
When installing DO NOT use express install. Do the custom. You can turn a lot of stuff off ahead of time...

no joy on making the automatic updates manual , as it is in a *normal* copy .
they can be disabled entirely but that is it . -
People who try the eval should get a deal on a COA IMO. Anyone know if there will be a $40 intro price?
I know about free updates from 7, 8 etc. -
Not sure about 10, but they did on the 8 evaluation

Tried Win 10 64 bit on a Dell D830 with a 2.5 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM and an SSD. Very impressed!
Has anyone tried it on a CF-51? I'd probably try the 32 Bit version but 64 would be better.
