Ive searched the forum and found how to install windows 7 on a cf-18 and cf-19 but nothing really on a cf-29. Ive been messing with one of our spare cf-29s but havent really had luck with some of it. Has anyone gotten windows 7 fully loaded and working on a cf-29 with a touchscreen?

I've gotten W7 to work on a CF-29 Non touchscreen, with very little issue. What sort of problems are you running in to?

Are you loading the xp drivers? I put windows 7 on my asus had problems with the sound but got it working with generic driver for my sound card brand.

Windows 7 has a update feature that fixed most of my problems have you tried it. down loaded the latest drivers for the laptop.

Let me know how it goes.

thats what i was thinking of trying... I was looking thru the cf-18 and cf-19 posts for windows 7 and the cf-18 one says to use the cf-19 drivers so Im going to try that for the cf-29 using the cf-30 drivers

ok i have gotten everything to work but the video drivers. i tried the method decribed for installing windows 7 on a cf-18 that rcx posted but it started giving me the bsod after a few reboots.

how did you get your video drivers to install?

Try running the video driver install program in Compatibility Mode; right click on the executable, then Troubleshoot Compatibility, then Use Recommended Settings. I've gotten ALL SORTS of drivers to run in Win7 using this feature.

    Good Luck!

windows update ran and updated everything but video drivers. it WILL NOT let me use the video drivers with out it giving me the BSOD on reboot or rolling back to the Standard Video driver and saying it could not install the device driver. I have tried several times to use the method that rcx said on his post on how to install windows 7 on a cf-18, and after I get it all the way and it reboots the BSOD comes up.

I have got everything else working... Touchscreen works great and can calibrate, hotkey , sound, nic, wireless, battery recalibration, common components, everything but getting the video drivers loaded is working.

What video drivers did you use?

I do believe it does. When it had windows xp on it I believe thats what it was. It is a CF-29HTQGZBM Mark3

When I reinstalled xp on it a while ago I just used the drivers on the panasonic driver site and everything worked perfectly.

Let me try the generic driver and see what that does.

Download it to the desktop. Open Properties and run it compatibilty mode, meaning Vista or XP. Then try running/installing it from there. I would turn off your internet connection while you do it as well.

    Le us know.

and I have tried running it in compatibility mode and that makes no difference. windows rolls right back after reboot to the standard vga driver and says it could not install the device driver.

even doing it like rcx said in his post "HOWTOL Install Windows 7 on a CF-18 mk-1"... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=418424

Sounds like yer gonna have to wait until Pen!sonic publishes some W7 support for ya, or dismantle yer unit to get MFR part #s for the chipset.

Panny is not adding support for units before the CF30MK3, and of course the latest other units.

We will get it figured out. Even if we have to get you on here while you do each step :)

My mind is still foggy from all my night terrors. Let me think about this one.

Plus it's my B-day, I am moving a little slow this morning. It's hell to get old!

Why must one do steps 2 thru 4 in RCX's steps on Update The Video Controller? Is it because of the unit your working with?

What if you did a System Restore to before you started trying to install this driver? Maybe you have something messed up by accident.

remember his intructions are for a cf-18 mk1. i have everything working except for video. touchscreen, sound, etc is all working by using cf-30 drivers for vista and some of the cf-29 drivers loaded for like the battery recalibration and such.

i could try and system restore but I would probably need to run back to the beginning and start from when windows 7 setup finished and go from there. Yes, no?

Ok, when you 1st installed W7, how was it? If it was OK, then I would go back to that point. You really should not be having these problems.

If he wasn't having any problems with the generic driver then why does he want to change it up??

When you are having problems where Windows reverts your driver back, then gives you fits, open up Printers & Devices~Right click on your Computer~Right click on Device Instalation Settings~Click on NO do not allow MS to update drivers on this machine.

I found this one awhile back.

For the Mk3 models you have to use the generic microsucks drivers. The 855 chipset will not take or handle any newer drivers. My "J" model Mk3 is that way. I installed win7 with everything except the video drivers and it has worked fine. The Mk4 model has the same problem with it's video chipset. Use the microsoft drivers, as the screen resolution is only 1024x768. I installed the newer intel video drivers on the Mk4 and tried to jump resolution to 1280. Had PAN and ROLL. Had to go back and disable the intel video drivers to restore the screen back to 1024.

As the screen is only 1024x768 no driver will correct this. The Mark4&5 use the same chipset. I have had no problems with Win7 since installing it on my CF-29N back in November, but then again, I do not have a TouchScreen.

The thread is around here somewhere.

I can not say for the Mark3, but on my Mark 5 it is faster.

Of course, I have more RAM then most do. But even with only 1.25GB of RAM, the way I had it set up shortly, it was faster.

All of this is subjective, I did not do any bench mark testing, so I am just talking "seat of the pants" impressions.

    Yes!
You will see lots of difference in the speed over the other operating systems. Windows 7 take alot less horse power to do the simple functions.

Azial is right on about the drivers, MK4 and MK5 take the same drivers in windows 7.

MK3 video driver, good luck with anything but the generic one windows 7 loads.

I have 7 running without a hitch on my CF-29 MK5, only trouble I ran into was getting the audio to work, I tried using the Vista driver available from Panasonic, and it refused to install saying it was not for that OS, however I opened the file using WINRAR and extracted the contents to a folder, then run the setup and it went in without a hitch, rebooted and I had sound.

This after installing a 2 gig RAM module (mine has the 256 meg onboard) and upgrading to Vista, then running 7 upgrade but using custom install formating the HD and installing a fresh instal. Priviously using a downloaded version of 7 everything installed and a windows 7 driver was installed for the sound, however I wanted this to be a leagal version of 7 so I used the Windows 7 Home Premium that I purchased from MS when it first came out, that is probably why I didn't get a valid sound driver installed.
So now I have a legal registered version Windows 7 running without a hich (and much faster then XP I may Add) on my Panasonic CF-29. Oh I also used the MOD to replace the panasonic CD drive with a DVD Burner from a different manufacturer so I can burn DL DVD's with the machine! :)
