Ok I was just reading the Panasonic instructions, it says to use an sd card. I Don't have a sd card reader on this machine, can I use a usb stick?

Also, the N key seems harder to press than other keys, this keyboard is backlit but not rubber. What is the best way to clean it or improve that N key?

Are you sure you don't have one. I am looking at one now that is the same model as yours

    Updating BIOS
Did you update the BIOS yet ? This is not hard at all, really it does it all by itself anyways, you just need the battery in and the charger plugged in. The 30 was the first Toughbook I have ever done and it was easy as 1 2 3

Use a USB stick to help load drivers. (I assume that is what you meant.) Also... I normally turn the laptop upside down and smack the keyboard to remove stuff lodged in it. Then I will blow it all out with compressed air. Then I spray a mixture of my Toughbook cleaner on it and wipe it down several times followed with compressed air again.

My "Special" Toughbook cleaner is 85% water, 15% Isopropyl alcohol and a few drops of nice smelling soap. Between this and Goo Gone... It can clean just about anything! And it works great for cleaning Touchscreens!

Oh Boy I am SOOOO embarrassed!
I thought the only place these had a card reader was in the bay on the other side.

I am in work and don't have either with me at the moment, usb or sd card.

On another note, I was wondering if this has a touchscreen or not, because touching the screen has some effect on the mouse as it sits here, so I looked in control panel and found that it has usb touch panel in devices and printers.

Yes it has a touchscreen but to get it to work you will need to update to the Vista BIOS

Ok Guys, I updated the BIOS.
It didnt seem to want to take the c: upbios command, I had to open the file and run it by clicking on it, but eventually it got back to the way your instructions said things would be happening.

Im downloading updates now, and here is where I am confused.
The instructions say "you want all the drivers for a cf-30, MK1 that runs vista. ...does that mean just the files that pertain to what i am trying to do? Ie, video card and 3 hotkey, misc, and so on, or do I HAVE TO install everything except for what I obviously don't have? like GPS or finger print reader.
I still need to get the touchscreen driver for the different mk model, but other than that I have 9 files ready, sound, video, 3 hotkey ones, misc, pc common. I thought it said 9 files but I also did the battery one.
I am beat for right now, so I will give it a rest and check back for your input before i proceed.

    Thanks again,
    Kevin

That's right, if you don't have GPS or finger print reader skip them drivers.

Guys I forgot to mention that when searching the list for downloads there was also a lcdmode file. I dont remember seeing any instructions on this, should i download this too?

    I now have on the USB;
    brecal
    hkeyapp
    hkeyset
    hotkey
    lcdmode
    newmisc
    pcommon
    sound video.
I plan to go over the notes and list them in order.

Ok, I loaded the video and it acted as described, then I restarted and went to do hot key by clicking on it and it gets unpacked to the c:/util2 etc, then I went to device manager and i see two unknown devices, try the bottom one, leaving the folder as hotkey, even though if i open that it shows amd. I tried both ways, each time it says windows cant find any files for your device.
I also tried the other unknown device, same message.

I did not load the sound driver, as my sound works, except for function keys,
Should I have done the sound driver?

There are other files that im not sure I need, such as cpupower,
    smartc,
    lan,
    modem, mouse,sda,
do I need these to get what I m lookingfor?

I really just want to be able to adjust the screen brightness, and since this is a touchscreen, I might as well be able to use it.
The function keys for sound do not wrk, but i can adjust that from the bottom tray.

My advice, do it right or leave it as it is. If you load all the drivers and programs, in the proper order and manner, everything should work properly. Trying to pick and choose what drivers and programs you install will lead to failure. Are you sure you are installing the right hotkey program/driver in the correct order? I beleive it is Appendix first then the driver.
As I said, trying to pick and choose the drivers you install will give failure.

Two places I have read that the hotkey driver is first, followed by settings and app, or app and settings.

I am trying to do what needs to be done in the order it needs to be done, but depending on where I look for instructions there are things that are mentioned that aren't really discussed, like BT Stack,

    install DMI as described...
I am new to this, and learning as I go.
Just for the hell of it, I just now tried pressing FN + F2, and the screen got brighter with each press, so I am doing something right/ you guys ARE teaching me something!!!!!

You need to do the BIOS upgrade if you haven't already... (If you have an XP COA, if you have a Vista COA you already have the correct BIOS) Then video, then hotkey driver then apps & settings (order for those two don't matter) then Misc driver... After that order doesn't matter.
