avservice did you use the link I posted? that one takes 24 hrs before they mail you the media center key. I just received mine after signing up yesterday morning. Barrmaley maybe this is just for US north america users? I did not have to provide any serial. All it asked was type of PC entered Toughbook, where bought entered bestbuy or ebay or officemax and date entered july 2012. and my email. and not 2 minutes later got the 2 emails. I used the thing five time for all my PCs.

No
I did a formal request for it on the Microsoft site and it has been about 24 hours,I just figure they are slammed with requests right now. -
Still nothing?

I know this may be a stupid question but...
I just qualified and downloaded Win 8 Pro onto my notebook PC. I do not plan to install it on this machine and thought I would be getting an ISO. But when it was finished with downloading and checking the download it gave me 3 options.
1: Install now
2. Create Install DVD
3. Install later from Desktop
I selected Option 3 as I had no media with me to burn the image to.
Now the question, where the hell did it download the file to on my PC? It is not on the desktop or in downloads! -
I see stardock is selling a 5 dollar utility to put the start button back in windows.

I think I might be able to live with W8 if I could choose to make All Apps the default start screen - mouse down, right click, then click on All Apps is just really annoying.
Hold-on-touchscreen for right-click would be nice too. Works great on my 19 Mk.1 with W7 but I haven't tried to install it on the 29 yet.
At present I can't touch the screen far enough to the right to select a "charm" so I'd like to make that work.
Edit: did try recalibrating with points 1/8" inboard of the crosses - which although it helped with that problem was just not accurate enough elsewhere on the screen.
Thought to change screen resolution by a small amount but W8 seems not to allow any change and I'm far too dumb to diddle with the registry or whatever.
Still just playing around with Windows 8 on sparecomputers waiting to see if MS or some developer can make it lovable. The gobsmackingly fast start is the only thing I like so far. If that slows right down when the drive starts to fill up what's left to love?
I suppose there must be people out there who have "upgraded" their only computer from W7... -

I installed it on a T8 and have no problem with the "Charm Bar"? What an idiotic name?
It requires going to the side and Wiping inward to get it to appear or just touching the top or bottom right corners with a mouse or a finger, pretty simple.
I am using Classic Shell and had issues at first but then after a reboot it seems to be working fine.
Also my Media Center Key did at last arrive and the install went OK I think but I also have no Media to try it with yet on this machine,go figure?

It should download it to your default download folder, check the last folder you downloaded to or run a search to look for an ISO file.
-
azrial just select create dvd it should let you make a dvd or bootable flash drive to install on the machine of your choice. that is what I did. One thing to note is that the install will be the bit version of the machine you downloaded to 32 or 64 bit. Found this out the hard way.
the 32 bit version is around 2.5 gigs while the 64 bit is around 3 gigs. -
Anyone try it on a CF-19 Mk1 yet? I ran the compatibility and most stuff looked like it would work. The thing I am nervous about is if I would lose the touch screen and hot keys.

Well I know what it was like to install W7 on a CF-19 MK1 so I am not going there ever again. If you had a MK2 I would try it with W7 drivers

Not sure if this is related to this thread, But as I understand it Win8 will be short lived and that the new OS has been ready in the wings for a short time; Windows 10. Win 9 is not on the board and has been side stepped as Win8 for mobil and Win8 for the rest of us are 2 systems.
This is just what I heard and time will tell if the information is correct, but the sorce has been correct before. Windows 10 sounds like a nice rounded number! hope so, but at the moment Win7 is my choice.
Could be why the price of Win8 is so low. -

I've tried to find this file too, but no result.
It's easier to restart upgrade assistant and tell it to install from USB drive. Upgrade assistant knows where to search)

Anyone know a way to re-invoke that option? -

I couldn`t get the TS to work properly when I installed 8 on my CF-30C.
Ended up re-installing XP.
Loved the OS though.
Going to sell my 30 and get a 31. -

Which 30 do you have...MK1 , 2 or 3 . On the MK1 my guess you would have to upgrade the BIOS to the new one

Just for the fun of it, I upgraded my CF-C1 from Win7Pro64bit to Win8Pro64bit last night. Upgrade went smoothly. Still playing around with it but bluetooth still works (streams Pandora seamlessly) to my Sony BlueToothSpeakers, and she boots up quickly in 13 seconds. Takes a little getting used to. I just tried two sites I use a lot, bank of America and Netflix. The software runs smoothly and the graphics are great! Suggest you go to some of your favorite sites that you use and see the difference.
Under Hardware there are 4 Driver error codes, one for my Gobi 2000 and three other unknowns. Something to look into when I have more time. At any rate, it's fun to try new operating systems. Win 8 to me is alot like JoliOS and Ubuntu. There is an app center and you can pin your favorites to the main screen. Touchscreen is still working fine also. I'll report back when I play some more with it. BTW, I downloaded it to a USB drive and saved my confirmation e-mail. I'd like to also see if Acronis will allow me to back up and save/etc. On the CF-19MK2, I recently upgraded from Vista Business to Windows 7 and used Acronis. I cloned all three hard drives to the Windows 7 operating system that previously had xp and vista on them. Now all three drives have an activated copy of Win7, too cool!
