Okay... So the CF-29 works great now except for the wireless.... Before I start tearing things apart.... Does anyone know why the wireless mini-pci card isn't being recognized in Device Manager? I thought it might be a bad card so I swapped in one of my 600mw units. It is still not being seen.
It appears that someone may have been inside this before... I'm not sure though. Then my other thought was that it might be tied in with the laptop not booting up.(But it looks like I fixed that by cleaning the contacts. It has ot failed to boot since I reseated the RAM, swapped hard drives and cleaned all the HD caddy and connector contacts.)
Also... It has bluetooth installed but I can't find the correct driver/program for it. The BT program I found installs but when I reboot I get a box that pops up that says, "This device not supported."
Anyone in the studio audience have any ideas that I haven't tried? Hidden dip switches perhaps? Anyone?

Are they enabled in the bios?
-
There is no spot in the BIOS for wireless but yes... I enabled EVERYTHING in the BIOS. Even "Boot From LAN" which I always turn off.
-
Did you read the release notes for the bios you used to update your original? Are you sure there aren't multiple bios' for your machine depending on the configuration? This sounds OTW, but who knows. A thorough read of the documentation would be a good idea.

Don't waste your time replying, I've taken care of that for you,

<scratches head... Takes a swig of Jack... scratches head... Wonders what the heck just happened.>

You know TB4ME... You may have something there... Somewhere in the cobwebs I want to say that I saw something else in the BIOS under "Boot from LAN" but it is not there now.... But It is almost the exact same setup that I have now... With the same gear.... So the BIOS should work.
-
When you get into Linux you will probably come to realize that RTFM is the old fashioned way of saying "Read The Friendly Manual", in a not so friendly way. I bet if you take a gulp off that Jack you'll figure out what "GFY"
means.
Hope I put you on the right track. -
Um... I know what it means... Just didn't get the humor of it or why you posted it. But now I'm laughing... inside... nobody sees it... But I'm just dying inside...
-
That's what I was going through when I posted Your (my) quote. Must be the Merlot. Dunno?

Well... I started to take the mobo out and then decided that it was getting late and I probably had too much Jack for such a delicate operation. I decided to button it up instead. I reseated the ribbon cables and put everything back in/on/together. When I fired it up I went into device manager. I see Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. However... It has an exclamation mark in a yellow circle beside it. Which to me means that XP sees it and knows what it is but the wrong driver is installed. I tried to install the WLAN drivers again. It came back saying that there was no device instaled and did I want to install it anyway. I chose to do it. Then I decided to uninstall it so that maybe XP would see it upon a reboot. It didn't come back! I went ahead with the Add Hardware Wizard and manually installed it. Still no dice. I figured I would uninstall all the COM Ports and the modem and LAN.... Stil no dice. But the wifi still shows in the Device Mgr with the exclamation point....
Anyone want to hazard a guess? -
And WTF does the rest of this have to do with ME?

Arooou-HUH? -
TB4ME... Search FOAD in the Panny Forum... It is a chip that Mnem discovered.
On to the topic at hand... I'm now clubbing myself over the head with a 30lb dumbell. The good news is... I'm getting a work out... The bad news is... well... It hurts!
After reseating the connections... I decided to tour the BIOS again.. Guess what I found... The wireless connection was OFF! I turned it on and VOILA... Working wifi! So it is just like the internal card slot on the 28... It doesn't show in the BIOS unless it is working. Which is strange because the LAN showed before it was installed. I guess XP knew about that one though....
These are the dangers of drinking and working at the same time!

O.K, but seriously,
Have you checked the IRQ's , and ?? assignment numbers to make sure that Bluetooth, and network don"t clash? , Disabled all the COM ports, except what you know you want?, Tried assigning manual settings to all of the above to avoid conflicts?, Checked whatererthehellmakesitshowtheconflictinghardware thing? (sorry used to Linux---can't find it) ? Blah...blah... Damn man GYST!!!
GAWD, I'm glad it's Friday!!

On a lighter note (a hair less than 30lbs lighter) - Any joy with the BT module?
mnem
*SKOL!* It's STILL green... -
I haven't had time to work on that yet... That's a "tomorrow" thing I think... We'll see how late I stay up.... Probably not too much longer...
-
Okay... I took all the info off of the BT module and nothing came up in Google.
Zeroflight... Do YOU have any ideas about the BT module? I have this file....

No joy in Muddville tonight.... I'm headed to bed!
'Night! -
Going off that, the module is CF-WBT292 while the install kit is CF-WBT182 but I don't know much about them beyond swapping 'em out.
-
Hmmmm... Looks like I'll just have to experiment
-
Do I get a "rep" for my lucky guess?
