Right i'm really annoyed to say the least. Just re-formatted xp on my CF-27. Has been running lovely no issues. As with all other previous installs the moment i install my Belkin FD57010 wireless card it runs for about 2 mins the blues screens. No matter what driver i use, no matter which PCMCIA slot it still does it. So i'm a bit p***ed.

Can somebody recommend me a PCMCIA wireless card of EBAY UK new that will work in my TOUGHBOOK CF-27 (Mk1) without failing? I don't mind what speed or what price just help me i'm going nuts.

    Regards,
    Mad

(P.S.I'd have thrown the toughbook out the window by now but it won't really do much to it so please help)

Mad, Not sure about the 27, but before I found this forum and started with the internal cards, I went through a lot of different cards which didn't work and settled on a Netgear WG511T which worked fine in my CF-28 Mk1's. Not sure if this helps. The machines were loaded with Win2K.

Thanks any help and advice is appreciated.

    I currently Own:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BELKIN-F5D701...ryZ74954QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Except i own V.3 model. I have installed the drivers, updates of drivers etc. but still get driver_irql_not_less.... and some other message which points straight at the Belkin card.

So to spare me any more gray hairs:

    I was thinking of buying:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEC-108MBPS-8...ryZ74954QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
    or
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ATHEROS-ABG-1...ryZ74954QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    EDIT: Any Suggestions/Thoughts?

    mads...

I've used the same card, as shown on the ebay link, on a CF-28 mk2 using W2K, XP, and a Debian install, with no problems. Odd that it works but then bluescreens. What else is on the 27 that might cause irq conflicts?
I assume you are using the Belkin apps rather than windows to control the wireless?

    edit-
At the wikispaces site, for CF-27 ( http://toughbook.wikispaces.com/CF-27)
There is an entry stating that there is a hardware incompatibility with CF-27 mk2's and atheros based cards. Maybe this extends to your Mk1?

There is nothing else that could cause the IRQ conflicts this is why i was vexed. Is the Belkin card Atheros Based?

And thanks for the info. Can you recommend me a non atheros based card?

The card shown on your link uses atheros drivers, though I think the makers switch chip makers as often as they make new versions. You said yours is v3, so it may be different.

I noticed on a Ubuntu forum ( I think it was) that you mentioned the card works with ndiswapper in linux. That is still using the same windows drivers, so it must be a windows issue(?).

Don't really have a recommendation on another card. I've used the Belkin and the Trendnet b/g cards, but currently use the mini-pci card everyone else installed in their -28's.

Mad, If you have a choice, based on my experience with Icom VHF and SSB radios, I'd try the Icom. They are a very high end manufacturer, and I wouldn't use anything else offshore. I had no idea they had ventured into computer stuff.

Madsalty, at the end, what kind of card did you use?
I have a cf-27 Mk2 and would like to make it wi-fi; I am worried about current consumption because in the Manual they state a maximum of 400 mA for both the PCMCIA slots, and several wireless PCMCIA cards need more.
