Hi, i have an CF-27 and only use it to play games and some word processing.

I was wondering what other people who still use their Toughbook CF-27, use this nice toughbook for ?

a while ago, i saw an add on E-bay for a Hackers CF-27 : simply a CF-27 with a CD and harddrive filled with hacker software for wardriving etc. Also a small booklet by some german security firm, descibing the use of "their" hacking software. This package of software and CF-27 was originally used for testing wireless systems in cities of Germany.

Also some people use it to internet/e-mail or for a GPS system.

I am curious about other uses for this Cf-27 laptop, and would like to know what kind of software the other members of this forum use on their CF-27.

    Thanks in advance.

Mine, sadly, have all been sold off or sent to the knacker's yard. They are great machines but the displays just don't cut it in an era of $50 CF-28s.

Well its technically mine, more like my team's, but i'm using a CF-27 for logging. Its fitted onto the dashboard of my team's Peugeot 205.

On a sidenote, "Baby Blue" has been in the service since it was brand new. It used to belong to a mechanic in one of the STCC stalls. (Swedish Touring Car Championship)

Yes, its painted baby blue. And no. Not my fault, might I add.

My cat uses one to watch "Video Catnip" on. When I'm not watching her, she also uploads cat scans and downloads kitty pawn. >^..^<

Can you use a CF-27 or Cf-28 for ham-radio with the built in standard antenna ?

I know that its officialy for the obsolete GPRS (pre GSM) system, but i read somewhere that a guy stated that also HAM / 27-MHz CB radio can be used with it.

Is that truth, or just a hoax.

If so, does anybody of the members of this forum has the software for it. It would be fun, to use my old CF-27 as a 27Mhz CB/HAM radio.

Sure you can use it for CDPD; that's what it's designed for. But on the 11-meter band? That would be like a 1/44th wave antenna or somesuch... Not gonna pass muster; even if you can match it to RX OK with some coil trickery, for TX there's no way you'll get any kind of useable SWR.
