On my 31 mk1. Upped the memory allocation to 1 gig and it's still like molasses in winter. Any tips? I think it used to be faster so something may have jacked it up.

Why are you running XP on a CF-31? Model A diagnostics?

LOL! No, alarm system programming stuff. Half the OEMs don't support anything after XP. I only got the 31 for one vendor who didn't support 95. My 17 was and is working just fine (ok, the battery went again about 5 years ago, but it runs fine on the mains). I put 7 on the 31 because I wanted an SSD. I'm going back to the HDD with XP on it if this XP mode issue isn't resolved. I bought a drive box when I got the SSD so the swap is instant. Dunno what happens in April, but I heard a rumor there will be security updates to XP for another year or so. All my desktops are on XP and I really don't see what the fuss is about. For day to day business, XP is more than enough. I have to run Chrome for one online service as they stopped supporting IE8. Other than that, no issues.

The only XP Edition to have...

How about hauling away a CF-28 for scrap and use that for XP... I wouldn't contaminate my CF-31 with it.... Just my .02 cents and guaranteed worth at least the same amount.

Thanks for the link. Unless I resolve the VM performance issues, I'll stick with XP until my vendors support 7.

yeah it runs slow. the only way I get it to run fast is on a desktop with about 6-8 gigs of ram and dedicate 3 to xp mode. On my CF-30 I am limited to 4 gigs total so I only dedicate about 1.5 to 2 gigs and it helps a tiny bit.I am in the process of migrating my toughbooks to ssd drives. I will update if it runs faster on that. Main problem is anything running virtually will always run slower than native unless you dedicate a lot of ram to it. More than evven xp requires. Normal xp would run pretty zippy with a 1 gig, under virtualization in my experience it needs about 3 to get that level.

sucks that some old programs will run under xp only.

Have you tried "virtual box" it's a free VM program. I have had good luck with it and use to use it to test out linux builds. I have never personally tried the windows 7 xp mode.

XP mode is acutally windows vm software with a preactivated copy of XP. Saves the hassle of activating and applying patches. I think it it patched to SP3.

SSD doesn't make it fast on my MK1. Put another way, were it slower it would be going backwards. Ima try some of the optimization tricks I found searching the problem, then I suspect I will load the XP drive and move on. Honeywell STILL does not support anything past XP. I wonder if they wrote the Barack Obamacare website.

found another tip for speeding up XPMode seems a bit zippier. Just involves editing an XML file. make a backup first just in case.

XP mode taking forever to load - Windows 7 Help Forums

also in XP mode right click My Computer go to performance and set for best. You can customize it a bit I leave the drop shadows and window dragging option on. Now it seems to load up in half the time and shutdowns almost instantly ( I don't use hibernate).
