OK here we go. About two weeks ago I bought a generic caddy for my CF-29 on line and it came with a Teac CD drive in the caddy. I had a post asking if there were any CDRW/DVD drives that you could buy and use without any modifications. Well I have a Panasonic UJDA-760 drive I was asking about it to see if it would work and i was told no.Well today just for the fun of it i switched out the drives in the caddy and installed the UJDA-760.I looked at the Device manager and the C drive on my 29 mark 3 and when i pushed the caddy in and guess what it recognized it and loaded the drivers.I played a DVD on it to see if it was true and it worked. Well that was easy enough I thought lets try this HP multi drive DVD/RW-CD/RW with light scribe and it worked too so i quit right there. I looked at the little board the drives plug into and there was no name or brand on it.I was very surprised. Maybe its the generic caddy? Thats the only two drives i tryed in it.There are more of these caddys available if need the number. Thanks Scanall

Yes but did you try rebooting with the drive installed? This is where you will see the problem. Windows has no problem seeing the drive via plug n pray.

You also never mentioned in your original post that this was a GENERIC caddy.... That will make a difference.
I'd be curious too if it is recognized in the BIOS... -

The UJDA 760 is the one used on CF-30 DVD/CD-rw. So, it means its master by default same as UJDA 750. There is no accident by what you've discovered. Few panasonic DVD-/+ rw also a master by default. If I am not mistaken a UJ 851S/ 841s either of the two.

You wont believe what I found by accident
