Okay... I've cleaned a lot of touchscreens and touchpads but stumbled onto a pretty slick way of getting all the crap out that wedges itself in between either the screen and bezel on the touchscreen or the touchpad and its surroundings. I usually use a clear plastic film that came off of a few stickers that I had laying around. I couldn't find them... So I looked around to see what else I had at hand. I decided to ct up an old, scratched touchscreen protector into thin strips about 2"-3" long. I started on the touchpad and immediately liked the results! The sticky back of the clingy type touchscreen protectors have just enough "cling" to extract lots of stuff! I fished a tiny little grain of sand from my touchpad that was preventing me from calibrating it properly. 95% of the stuff fished out sticks to the back (or front depending on how you insert it) of the plastic so it isn't just ground and mashed further into the corners. Just thought I would pass this along for those of you who may have spare touchscreen (Or PDA or cell phone) protectors laying around.
I'm really shocked that something as rugged as the toughbook can be brought down or partly immobilized by something as small as a grain of sand!

I thought of 100% clear silicone... But anything not factory would look trashy.
-
clear matt nail polish round the edges works for me, on the touchpad.
-
That's quite a gap to fill with nail polish.
-
Sounds like a better idea there Rick -
I've always used similar probe cut from a 2liter soda bottle; but that sticcky stuff does seem like it would collect the ookums better.
Well done!

Mod this post up +1 scaly. -
Try using a clear Touchscreen protector that is for a larger laptop screen. Pull the frame around the LCD/Touchscreen and cut the protector to fit the full LCD, not the opening. It should be just thick enough to fill the gap, but not so much that it interfers with the Touchscreen. Also, you could probably double up on the protector to close the gap even more and only lose a slight amount of Touchscreen sensitivity.

I hate installing touchscreen protectors... I don't have a "clean room" so I always end up with at least 1 speck of dust underneath.
-
Would probably increase the water resistance though!

If it were done correctly it would be okay. But you'd have to mask the area, apply the silicone and remove the mask for it to work well.
(Hmmmm..... I have a lot of masking downstairs......) -

If I were you guys I will leave it alone coz it will be difficult for someone to troubleshoot when problem occur again. It will ended up destroying the whole setup. It only need a clean up two to three time of its lifetime when using to the outside world, Lol.

Dude... I type so much stuff... and I NEVER have a problem (usually) except for this site.... For me to remember, take the time and then have to copy & paste my answers... I'd rather cut my wrists. If the owners can't... <Shutting up>
I will not copy my stuff because the website can't handle it! I have too much to do... Most of the time I am typing frantically to get an answer out...
Screw it.... I'm on vacation for the next week anyway....
Maybe I'll chime in from San Juan... I'm bringing my wife's CF-18... We'll see how it goes! -
Have Fun Rick
