I just picked up a CF-19PJRFXAM. I lcouldn't pass it up because it was so cheap (1k). It has gps but no BT or wifi card.

I sawt he thread on adding the wifi card but couldn't find any info for adding BT.

Couple of questions. Is opening the back of the computer a big deal besides the 12 screws?

Does anyone have a wifi card for sale or should I hit up Heartland? part#?

    TIA

    Its easy to open up
probably best to just use a genaric wi-fi card ,rather that the more expensive panasonic part
Not sure on what cards are available for these mk-3 models ,I know its a ABGN card from panasonic

Sorry, others can point you in the right direction
I have not spent too much time on my cf-19, I don't know where the blu-tooth card is located
The interface is m pci-e for the wifi , and i'm not sure if the cards are updated from the intel 4965 that I have in mine
I would think that they would be using a 5100 or 5300 intel card now, but I really don't know for sure

Hunter get back with me after the holidays, I will have a bunch of spare parts that will be of use for you. I am picking up a few surplus 19's on the 28th, and should have them all sorted out by 3rd of Jan.

I'm still trying to figure out a good wifi solution for my cf-19.

Are all of these mini pci-e cards compatable or do I need a panasonic specific model.

Will this one work? are there any higher performance models out there?

I have one of the little bt usb plug in models. The range is not very good. Is the factory set up much better?

Yes, you can install any MiniPCI-E compatible card. 5300 is good, but you'll need to add one antenna, because 5300 has 2,4+5GHz spectrum and needs 3 antennas.
Just add Intel 4965 and connect internal antennas (you'll find a free pair of wires inside your laptop).

Thanks BarrMley, I did a search for the 4965 and all I could find is the AG an AGN version. I think these also have the 5ghz. Is this correct? Sorry to be so dumb abut all of this but I'm not a computer whiz. LOL.

I called heartland and they want $179.00 for the cf-19 mrk III wifi modual. They would not tell me what it is though. Recovery cd's are only $29.00 that seems reasonable.

will any of the intel 5100 moduals work or are they configured differently for different manufacturers?

The bluetooth module of cf-19 unit is located beneath/buttom area of the WWAN pcb board which is attached to a metal frame just like on cf-18.

Rob might have more info on this as he has a guide for modding a newer wi-fi card in his cf-30 on toughbooktalk downloads here

I have been happy with my Intel 3965abg card in my cf-30 so I have not upgraded
The Intel 5300 is the best card , far better than the 5100
I would take a chance and buy a generic card
That price seems high to me

I don't know the whole back story on that cf-30 upgrade but I guess if you use a generic card it eeds to have one of the pins covered. No big deal.

Acording another post in this thread and intels website the 5300 uses 3 antennas and the 5100 only 2. I don't want to get into trying to route a third antenna through my cf-19.

I sent an email to intel asking which specific model of the 5100 fits in a cf-19 mark III. I'll post what they say if they ever get back to me.

You don't need to install the third antenna , two will work ,you just leave one off
Reduced throughput with just 2 antenna's but you will not notice a difference as the two wire spped will be faster than you internet connection

Teo, do you have one of these magical bluetooth cards that you can sell me to put into Samantha's CF-19?

    Anyone, anyone, anyone?

    Thanks

Rob...recently I've seen five of them on ebay. I forgot the seller name/id maybe Alex will remember. He sold only three and I am pretty sure he still got 2pcs left behind. I tried to buy one but he doesn't want to ship to canada. Anyway, you can pull out your bluetooth module on your cf-30 and install to her cf-19. Lol...They uses the same module for your info.

ok, I picked up a 5300 card to see if it will work. I took my case bottom off and I see where the card goes but no antenna cables. Are they hidden somwhere or normally laying loose? according to the configurator this is wifi ready.

looks like you are missing the cables, but just to be sure, can you remove the two side plastic covers on your screen and take pictures of the bottom portions of the PCB antennas?

They are all there attached to the pass thru connector except a jumper wire. Here how it works:
Take off the gray/slate wire into the passthru connector the one beside the black cable and attached it to the aux. u.fl male connector of your wireless card. Now! you need a jumper wire around 5-6" long with two female u.fl connector at both end of it, but I gess it is the one missing. That jumper wire will be connected to the pass thru connector where you take out the gray wire one and the other end will be connected to your main connector of the wireless card. Since you don't have those jumper you may take off the black wire from the pass thru connector and directly attached it to the main connector of your wireless card.

Summary: all of your wireless cable will be directly connected to the wireless card. Reason, as I said above you don't have jumper to use your pass thu connector just in case you want to use it on the docking station to have an external antena on the car or wahtever purpose you may have. Good Luck

Thanks for the info!!! All of the antennas are there. So you connect both the gray and the black. I'll post a pic of the wifi card to be sure where they go.

If anyone has a bt modual and a pass through cable or the part number for the cable let me know.

there are three antennas but they are numbered 1-3-2 instead of 1-2-3.

So which one is main and which aux?

Its no matter anyway if you interchange both of the two antena as they are with the same frequency. We are just want to follow the standard.. let say standard protocol..Lol..Its like some seller on EBAY that I have seen now a day that changing the harddrive, ram and installing plug n play accessories called themself as "professional"

Don't touch the antena on the other side of the pass thru connector as those two are for WWAN card.

Edit: Oh! Sorry! I thought you are refering to the antena. You don't have manual of the card? It is pinted on it of which terminal . I guess 1 & 2. The 3 is for wireless g that needs another antena with 5ghz

There is no indication on the wifi card as to which is which. there are no instructions with it only a cd rom with driveres a confuguration utilities. Nothing on Intels site either.

so I taped the pin like mentioned in the above linked thread. And have the antennas hooked up. Can I leave the wifi card loose for now or does it need to be screwed down. I still need to rob some screws from and old comp.

Before I power anything up I wanted to make sure I'm not going to fry anything. Lol

1 screw needed to hold in place as the connector is double sided
I would of tried it first without the mod to see if it works without

    update.

I pluged it all in like the picture above. I put a piece of tape over the #2 pin in the second row like outlined earlier. turned it on and installed the intel cd that came with the wifi card. before I knew it I was connected to my neigbors wifi because I can't find my wep key. lol...

    So it works!!!

I can see 3 times more networks than my cf-20 markV can but the signel strength on them is not as good as my cf-29.

I may not have everything hooked up properly but it is working so I'm not messing with it until I find the patch cable to the antenna pass through.

Also there is a panasonic icon on now that says 802.11a enabeld. Any idea what that is?

Thanks for all of the help guys!!

    Thats great
You need at least 2 antenna's to work properly
The card support the "a" standard so the panasonic switch utility shows that as an option-Same as with my newer wi-fi cards

Teo, I see this bluetooth chip. I've extracted it from a laptop here at work and will put it into Samanthas now. Hopefully the little blue antenna will be there in hers.

    Thanks!!
